So Fleury is clearly team MVP, right? They look pretty bad without him. And that shootout tonight was totally winnable with MAF in net.
Fleury, statistically is having one of his best years in the NHL and he had a pretty damn fantastic one last year. Zats only has the back-up job because the brass wasn't sure Murray was ready or if he should be wasted as a back-up right now. Next year, he'll be our back-up and play 30 games at least with how good he is.
It still gives MAF 45-50+ games, Pens still NEED Maf and Maf is still a damn good goaltender.
But jeez..Murray, kid is truly legit.
The Pittsburgh Penguins' problem starts with an ownership that meddles far too much with he style this team "should" play and hiring people that they feel need to be there when they shouldn't.
I can't believe, as a Pens fan, I am saying the Pens need a better owner than Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle.

I'm actually kinda speechless on how bad they have been. Kessel now a 3rd liner is nuts. People thought he was gonna pot 80-90 points.
I thought Kessel might challenge for the Art Ross
I was 100% sure he would have a career high in goals.
I am willing to concede though that coming to a new team, and now TWO new coaches can be a challenge for anyone.
If he is still scoring at the same rate next season, I would be worried.

Kess has been a disappointment. He's flubbed at least 10 sure goals form Sid or Geno this year. IMO, his wet nooble of a stick makes it impossible for him to receive passes.
They have 2 elite centers, and 1 elite goal scorer, and they have a good group of secondary scorers. Yet they're 28th in goals per game. My question is, how?

They're butter soft and are horrible complements to each other. JR just put together a bunch of players with high NHL 16 ratings without considering their fits.

I made a post a few years ago about how I thought Kessel should use a different stick. Like you said, he can barely accept a pass with any velocity and it constantly bobbles away from him while stick handling. It's worked for so long because of his speed/shot, once he loses a step he won't be able to get into the same situations to properly use his shot. He's gotta transition to a more well rounded game over the next few years or he's going to look pretty terrible and part of that has to be using a stick which can properly control the puck.

Much better posession numbers, corsi, etc. Hasn't really resulted in many more goals though.

Well they hired Mike Sullivan after all, he is a terrible coach, or at least was a terrible assistant with the Rangers. Have to assume they will look for a real coach in the offseason.

What's hilarious is that people are realizing this now about Sullivan only being a stopgap, but as soon as he gets fired, the "Kessel is a cancer" and "Crosby is a coach killer" posts are going to flood this board.
