THE ROAD TO 100 POINTS

SO FAR:
46GP 30-12-4
64 points .696%

THE GOAL:
82GP 46-28-8
100 points .610%

THE MINIMUM WE NEED:
36GP 16-16-4
36 points .500%

I’m pretty confident at this point.

I'm not really going to say that Haula is likely to solve our bottom six scoring problems.
the only thing that's gonna solve the team's bottom-6 scoring problems is putting the 12 best players on the ice in positions that make sense and then LEAVE THEM THERE FOR MULTIPLE GAMES. Been impossible for the third line to build any chemistry.

I mean what does it say about Ruff that he puts lines together and has to change them 15 minutes into every game?

I don’t even know how Dano thought that Pens penalty was close. When what’s his face came on the guy coming off was at the Devils blue line lol.
The guy jumping on early created the 2 on 1. There was nothing approaching an odd man rush without that guy jumping on 40 feet early. I give the refs credit though. They have to make that call but often they don’t. Do they make the call if the game is in Pittsburgh?

Winning the game on a penalty that reverses a sneaky odd man rush, and then a Hamilton one time bomb on our ensuing power play, is a mirror image of our OT win earlier this year in Calgary (I think it was).

Obviously extremely fortunate to get two points but good teams find ways to get it done when they’re not at their best.

With that said….I do believe there is some cause for concern though. Despite this 6-0-1 stretch, besides the Anaheim game which is to be expected against a terrible team, I actually think the Devils are playing considerably worse than when mired in the slump.

So Ruff can be hard on the kids and hold Holtz and Zetterlund accountable but Wood doesn’t get benched? He’s been horrifically bad. I get he’s a locker room leader but that doesn’t mean he should be immune to being scratched. He brings nothing to the table right now. At least Zetterlund can do the little things and not be a liability.

I’ve been wanting to see Holtz get a real chance with Hughes and it still hasn’t happened. Why even play them together in pre-season? It’s clear Ruff and the staff has no faith in the kid. It’s obvious to me that if there’s a hockey trade to be made, he will be the centerpiece. I would not be the least bit surprised if Rango was in that deal.

As for Rango, you HAVE to hit the net with that shot in OT. The Devils were bailed out by the too many men penalty or he would have been a villain.

The more I see the Devils play, the more obvious to me how badly they need a Meier.

The problem with the win’o’meter is it is based on league average goaltending and not average performance of the goalie in net.

Also most people (myself included) struggle to understand probability as expressed by percent and the meter aspect makes it worse. About 60% means Pittsburgh should win slightly less than 2 out of 3 times. The game went to OT and they had slightly better chances in regulation.
One of the issues I have with that site (moneypuck) is when you look at their playoff probabilities, they currently have 18 teams with a better than 50% chance at making the playoffs. 9 teams in each conference they have at at least 52.1% chance of making the playoffs.

We all know only 8 teams per conference and 16 can get in.

They have the biggest erection for Florida. They liked Buffalo a lot earlier and had them very high through about December, but they've remained pretty low percentage since then, Even with the mini heater they were on fairly recently.

I'm typically on board with your sentiment. Today was about Nico out and double shifting Mercer, tho, right?

Last game was about Bastian coming back.

You could be right, but right now it looks like A wicked top3, Palat getting his game together, a fringe top6 guy playing well in Tatar, + out of place Haula.... And then a whole lot of fringe outside of Mercer. A couple great role players like McLeod...
Guys who are invisible, and show promise for one game.

It was sooooo blatant though. They have to call that, if they didn’t it would have been one of the worst non calls ever. Hamilton had to change how he was playing it cause all of sudden there was a guy wide open out of no where.

The guy supposed to come off was at our blueline when Petterson jumped on. It was an easy call to make.

I’ll just say they were terrible in the 2nd period but did come back with a pretty good 3rd period. And they’re also pretty good at 3 on 3. Too bad it’s not used in the playoffs.
