Given the Jr/pens connection I wonder if Vancouver looks at Marcus Pettersson. Ufa so wouldn't cost a ton and the Pens season is already on the verge of being lost.

I dont think Desharnais has been a disappointment. He has been inconsistent though. He will play 2 excellent games then a poor one.

I like the size , toughness, and most of all Penalty Killing that he can bring especially in a 7 game series. He seems to also be a late bloomer with lots of growth in his game to go. Adam Foote and Gonchar will hopefully be able to help his game much like they did for Tyler Myers.
He's a late bloomer in the aspect that he's reached his peak and it's replacement level.

But he's so big! Guy has a great story being a late draft pick and working hard to reach the NHL, but he just doesnt have enough talent to do anything at this level.

The big guy is getting close to 30. There isn't "lots" of growth in his game.

JR and Allvin can just cut out the middle man here and not wait for the Pens to waive a defenseman or until free agency.

You can have Matt Grzelcyk now for a low cost of a 3rd round pick.

If you squint hard enough, the size part is sorted.

Or Marcus Pettersson for a conditional 1st and some other parts.

Now is the important part of the phrase "puck-moving, top-4 D man with size" the puck-moving or the size? Because at this point, our puck-moving (outside of Quinn Hughes) really ain't it, Hronek isn't looking good in year 1 of his extension, and our size (Soucy, Myers, Desharnais) has been error-prone and underperforming.

I wonder if the need is to add another north-south, shoot-first type winger (someone to help Conor Garland out there, my goodness he was trying to solo it last game :help: ... could be Joshua??) and then have someone wake up Mr. Hronek and Mr. Pettersson. We really can't have $19 million of cap space doing nothing but be hesitant and error-prone, and I'm not sure there's some quick fix in a trade that would correct things (plus it'd cost to have them take money back e.g. for Soucy/ Myers who likely goes back in the deal). The solution just might have to be from within.

I sure a Hell wouldn't want to give up Mancini but let's play Devils Advocate.

What would Van fans give up for a:

6'3"
229lb
Right shot
60/40 Offence/Defence Dman?

NYR is pleasantly surprised and so are the fans.

Just curious.

Kid is The Tits at the moment, and we are thin at D prospects, but win now with our core and their NMC's is a consideration, no doubt.

I've thrown out this idea before, but something like Marcus Pettersson for Elias Pettersson (defenseman) and a 2nd makes a lot of sense to me on paper. Penguins get a prospect that is a super similar stylistic fit to Marcus while the Canucks get a nice top-4 upgrade for a fairly modest price.

Some fans on here think that Pettersson could bring back a 1st at the deadline, but personally I think a B prospect and a 2nd is a bit more realistic.

I would take on that risk for the right deal. Power or (Byram) and Cozens for Pettersson is something I would personally look at. I think Peter does better in a different market. I don’t know how close that value is, but some pieces can be added on either side to. Balance it out.
I get EP has had a rough stretch and maybe part of that is the fit or style or lingering injury, who knows? But they would never make a trade that they are worse after. The real EP at some point will find his game so unless a team was trading for that version, the nucks would never trade him.

I think Power and Cozens for Petersson is something that could work out..Not sure of any more parts would need to be added to make it work.

I’d want to see the team gel a bit more before adding a likely rental, but in terms of value I’d do that for sure.

Marcus Pettersson will be very highly sought after at the deadline, but probably is the best defenseman that will be available.
