Textbook in that situation is you take the man out of the play, which he did, because it's way easier to miss the puck than miss the man.

If McDonagh skated there, he would have had his man covered and the goal wouldn't happen (but Nash gets the brunt of the blame for the horrible turnover).

I have no idea why Hank often takes himself out of play after the first shot. He either falls on the stomach or slides away from the net.

There was no first shot. He faked, fanned on the shot and Hank already reacted to the would be shot. Which his pad was in perfect position for.

The puck stays out in front for them to bury it because no one came back to clear it.
