Is 350 points a realistic number for the big 4 combined this season? ~140+ for Tang and EK and~160+ for Sid and Geno. If EK fixes the PP it could be more.

Wandered into some other fanbase threads to read Karlsson reactions and Philly's is by far the most positive re: the Pens. Really strange to read haha.

Flyers fans... at least on here... have always been a really funny and sharp bunch. Honestly I don't even take much joy that they are pretty awful and are being coached and managed by abject morons. Doesn't feel right. But that feeling will pass when inevitably the pendulum swings the other way again. Likely AFTER they scoop out the rot in Clarke, Jones, Torts, etc.

Regardless it's a little weird that they of all people can understand this fanbase the most. Although I suppose it makes some sense.

Out of all the now-retired players from the cap era of the Pens, which do you think would be the best commentator? I think we can do better than Colby.

I bet Bobby Farnham would be entertaining on the mic.
Tyler Kennedy

I'm probably kidding but I love him

Talbot was pretty good when he was in the short time booth talking with Bob and Steve during that game at home vs The Wild IIRC this season. I think he'd make a good one someday if he wanted.

Fair enough. I just don’t need rose colored shit spewed at me all game. I prefer some honesty during games.
I think you don’t need to sugar coat the game to be booster and make a good listening experience. Lange was great at pointing out the good and the bad while providing great pbp. Bourque was okay with Lange because Lange did the lion’s share of the work.

The new crew isn’t nearly as good and it makes Bourque come across as a complainer and the boring uncle who talks over you and doesn’t listen. He’d probably be a lot better with a better partner, but right now he’s the Ruhwedel of the broadcast booth.

Sid - 90
Geno - 90
EK - 60
Letang - 50

That's about 290. 350 might be really pushing it unless something really clicks. This also assumes they all play the pull 82 games. Sid, Geno, and EK did last year but I think that's highly unlikely to happen again this year. I expect each to miss about 10 games.

Bourque gets pretty bitter and salty sometimes but at least he's no Caufield.

If people are downgrading D production because it didn't work great with Burns and Karlsson I'll just point out that Burns' career season was his first season with Karlsson. That's his one ppg season. Karlsson was 6th that season despite adjusting to a new team and playing through a groin injury.

Then San Jose's forwards implode.

I know neither Letang or Karlsson are in their prime, but projecting them to be 15th (a 60 point pace) and 29th (a 50 point pace) in dman scoring when I've seen an elite offensive dman punch go for 1st and 6th...

Habs fan here. Congrats on landing Karlsson. Should be treat to watch such a talent for 4 years. I envy you guys...

I was wondering about Petry. I didn't get to watch him much in Pittsburgh last year. It sounds like fans and management weren't happy with his play. He did produce at a 40+ points pace per 82 games. So I was wondering what the problems were with his play?

Petry was just fine last year. Injuries didn't help his case and he still did OK.

I think the only thing that really let us down is we were hoping he'd be more dynamic offensively. But he wasn't exactly BAD in that regard, either. He was dependable and one of the only guys on the back end last year that used his size effectively. Although I wouldn't exactly characterize him as like... physical, either. In short he's a perfectly fine middle pairing RD and should give the Habs good service for at least another couple seasons barring injury.

The chemistry Karlsson is going to have pushing the puck up to Malkin and Sid is going to be insane. He hasnt had an elite center since prime Spezza to feed its wild to watch a D man have chemistry with forwards but it happens. You guys are getting him at the right time, think he needed some culture shock to bring him back and he appears to be healthy. Spezza will help with the transition, he is a better defender than people give him credit for. The best he has ever played was with a big rangy mobile lefty as his D partner in Methot. Pettersson should be perfect for him. As a sens fan I hate the idea of you guys being great but I respect the team so much I am looking forward to watching it.

Reilly Smith, Acciari, Pitlick, Nedeljkovic and Karlsson in Granlund, Zucker, Ruuta, D Smith and Petry out with cap space to spare. What an offseason for Dubas.

I know of one that would be funny as hell and piss mostly everyone off at the same time. His partner would be Max Talbot "SUPERSTAR".

Marc Andre Fleury

I crave for this comedic onslaught.

C'mon, just hear his voice calling the plays. Talbo, you suck...

Blind Willy pretty much covered it. We were hoping for a guy who still had dynamism in the tank to really charge that 2nd pairing, look like a 6.25m guy.

Petry was a good 2nd pairing guy, but he didn't have that dynamism. When a team is struggling to break out of its zone every night and you bring in a 6.25m dman you were hoping could be a hotshot, all eyes turn to look at him. Microstats suggested he wasn't too hot there. But his overall results were fine to good.

Penguins fans criticized Kris Letang for years. They have a strong misunderstanding of what typical offensive defensemen look like in today’s league.

Petry was good. He had an adjustment period as expected for the first few weeks and then had several injuries that effected his play to finish off the year, but he was the same Petry as Montreal saw the previous year.

Its kind of wild reading it. Especially the one poster decrying the EK trade because of his cap hit, and in reply he has people just lining up to rip a new one.

Then again, there are a lot of sensible and knowledgeable posters there that I respect....that just happen to be Flyers fans. Their venom has been removed after years of that franchise being led by god awful nepobabies, while we've delivered more cups. This deal must burn for them, especially in light of the blue line trash they've overpaid for in the Fletcher era.

Ok, that sounds good. That's the Petry I remember. He wasn't able to be a PP QB. But he has some offense to his game. And he uses his frame well in the D zone.

The problem is his large cap hit.

In addition to Rocky VII - Adrian's Revenge. Classy guy.

300 is probably more realistic but 350+ would be super fun to watch.
