I feel that. I often take Forbes or Commercial instead.
It’s a tunnel. It’s driving with a roof over you. Why does everyone have to slow down to 20 mph before they get in there? Even when there’s no traffic, there’s traffic. One of life’s greatest mysteries. NASA should send someone to study that thing.

I solved it by moving the hell away, but the affects from having to drive through it 10x a week for awhile likely stole years from my lifespan.

The issue is that pick would've likely been another 1st tbh.
frank Seravalli said this morning that the Sharks were willing to go to 20% retained. I would of given another 1st for that or a prospect. Would of given the Pens another million in flexibility. Not thrilled that Karlsson is at 10mil and we retained on Petry.

You'd have given another 1st round pick for a million in saved cap? Jesus Christ, dude.

That's JR levels of absurdity. Maybe worse.

In the long run I don't mind it tbh.

Getting out of Rutta, Petry and Granlund's contracts even with retention saved us cap and we have 19ish million next year with Jake, Smith and POJ being the only potential pieces that are getting significant raises.

Ideally Winnipeg sucks and we can pull DeMelo out of there for 50% retained if the Penguins are a good team.

I feel like that is Grier trying to save face.

“Those suckers, I would have retained more, but I’m a master negotiator.”

Ewww no. that's like a million dollars. Take the first and upgrade the forwards. Carter will be gone next offseason. Use the first to bring in a player at the deadline you can resign after.

If Jake takes 8ish. They have 10 million next summer to work with.

I can't quite remember but did Smith or POJ play on the right side extensively?

Smith was playing the right side with Dumo when he was up last year and he did it fairly well. He was RD for spells in junior and said he prefers it.

Honestly, I'd probably try some type of combination of POJ - Letang / EK65 and drop Graves down with Smith if I was building our roster.

Pettersson - EK65
POJ - Letang
Graves - Smith

Would be my build personally.

20% would have given us an extra 800k. I'd have loved to have it, and the retention back on Petry, but I also love how few assets we gave up considering everything we did. I think I love it more.

Our top 4 players are paid 30-something million. That's still really cheap for a core.

Sure you probably want a crease clearer at some point but compared to where we were at the start of the summer...

They won't do that and I don't know if they should. They want consistent partners and they aren't playing POJ 20 mins a night.

Sullivan has been way too stubborn to mix things up or he could have Graves taking shifts with both Smith and Letang.

Not really when youre considering we are 80k over the cap still and will be cash strapped all season. We are going to have zero flexibility at the deadline to add, regardless of how good the team is doing. Carter going on LTIR is a pipe dream at this point. Not getting Karlsson and retaining on Petry has really cap strapped the team.

No, I said I would of given up a 1st to get more flexibility. Not retaining on Petry or getting Karlsson at a lower amount would of given us wiggle room to upgrade from Ruh on the bottom pairing and or add someone like Tatar. Instead we are going to play waiver gymnastics just to ice a roster, let along add at the deadline.

Yes we will.

and

No it hasn't.

We currently are paying less cap then we were for EK65 then we were for Petry, Granlund and Rutta.

They are fine. That first would have had to get more than another 1.5 in savings to be worth it and that wasn't happening. Someone will get hurt probably right after Guentzel comes back anyways.

No, it's indefensibly stupid to pay an extra 1st for $1 million in cap space.

Bury anybody you want not making $1.1 million AAV (iirc). Trade somebody like Ruhwedel for future considerations.

Trading a 1st for $1 million in cap space is zany levels of knee-jerk.

EK was supposed to meet with the media at 11:15 today according to Yohe but it got postponed. No idea when it's happening.
He probably went through the Squirrel Hill tunnel then…either that or he hit up Eat n Park and got food poisoning…

For an extra 800k I would not be interested in Another 1st. I'd want like a 7.5 million to 8 million cap hit which is atleasy 30%

On my trip out to Pittsburgh I stopped at an Eat n Park because it was like 3am when I finally got into town. The waitress was weirdly insistent I had to have a heaping side of famous Pittsburgh coleslaw with whatever I ordered. I f***in' hate mayo-based coleslaw, man.

I'd love to pillage Calgary if they're a train wreck again. Backlund for 3C and Tanev for 3RD would be nuts.
