We still need to add a top six forward. With Jake on LTIR we should have a decent amount of cap. We need to hedge our bets here. But Dubas did very well and extracted great value.

Sullivan seems hands off with the power play. For better or worse, 87, 71 and 58 decide what happens. And they deferred to Kessel before. I’m sure they recognize even in his 30s, EK is in a different tier of talent.

Kessel's utilization on the powerplay while he was here does give me hope, yes.

Then again Sullivan seemed to be a different coach back then.

Reirden is much more flexible to change than Sullivan is.
That's why we saw Petry replace Letang on the PP at one point. That's why Rakell replaced Rust full time.
I was still confused why Zucker never got PP1, but whatever.

I just couldn't see a way it would have ever made sense with Sid still around. That's just a huge, unmovable factor that you cannot square with rebuilding nor shouldn't.

But yes... doing some middle ground wishy washy stuff was never the way. As Hextall in the unemployment line should bear out.

Would depend what you got for 71 and/or 58. A few years ago, they still had crazy value. It’d be more replace them with younger players at far lesser cap hits and use the space to land a big fish in free agency.

No promises we’d be any better off, but it’s one way to go.

Pittsburgh
is it safe to say the d-core now has the best flowing locks in the NHL? Letang, EK, and Graves all have glorious hair.

Then theres ******* Ruhwedhel:

I'm not a Todddddddddd fan especially after last season. But you are probably on to something here, yeah.

I mean I won't criticize because everyone is entitled to their ideas on what would work and what wouldn't. And there are lot of ways to win. But I just don't see the point. It would be very dependent on what could have theoretically been landed... and by Ron Hextall no less.

The sheer amount of negativity towards EK specifically from Toronto fans is hilarious.

KING DUBAS lives in thier heads rent free

If we can somehow also make a major upgrade at wing by the deadline, he’s already aces in my book.

If Capfriendly is correct about the Pens having 3 million in cap space I wonder if they could grab Tatar for like 2 mil or something. He'd be very useful

I think they actually improved their depth scoring with moving Granlund for Pitlick.

Granlund: 1.42 5v5 points/60 in the last 2 years
Pitlick: 1.87 5v5 points/60 in the last 2 years

Pitlick had 37 points in 66 games in 2021-2022.

Screw Pitlick I'm looking at Hamaliuk at 6'4 coming down the side with 6'7 Zohorna

That'd be great. Hope we're looking along those lines. Although not sure about the cap space. I thought we were right up against it.

If this doesn't fix the powerplay nothing will. EK is a master back there and those missed opportunities in Geno's skates won't happen anymore.

Not to mention EK working his magic and opening up the ice.

Exciting times to be a Pens fan

Need to be careful we have enough money to activate Jake though. I do like Tatar that being said.

If I remember right, it was reported that both Sid and Tanger had talked to Karlsson about coming here. Got to think to think that included conversations about his role here and how they were excited to have him taking a big offensive role, right?

Hey guys! Come in peace. I think this trade is great for everyone - you guys get what you want and have another chance at the cup, we got rid of a massive contract for a tiny amount of retainment and a 1st — something we genuinely couldn’t have even imagined last summer.

Question for ya’ll: what’s the word now on the old dudes we got? I know they’re all cap dumps but just curious what level they’re playing at now — are Granlund/Hoffman third line players? 4th line? How bad ARE they? Is Rutta still pretty good? I think he’s actually a nice teacher for some of our young defensemen, so I sorta like getting him back.

Thanks!

P.S. as a kid I loved Jagr (I had long hair and everyone called me Jagr when I played) and always picked the Penguins when I played the NHL games.. before I became a big Sharks fan of course. Anyway, still have a soft spot for your team and hope Karlsson can get a cup there.

*shrug*. I dunno, I'm sure there's a lot of re-arranging to do and we don't know what our final roster looks like yet in terms of who makes the team and who goes to WBS, etc. But if they can somehow squeeze out a little space and add a Tatar or someone like that that would be massive.

Personally I would rather stay away from Tatar and get someone a little more in the Zucker mold as far as forecheck/tenacity.

Too many soft wingers
