So where are all the people saying we weren't getting a high pick back now? 😉

Anyway keep it going, see what's out there for Bunting or Rakell and try to move EK please and thank you!!

Yep the next shoes to fall will be better since less retention for the cap increasing. I had Karlsson at 5 AAV retention in a deal. Now maybe 3 million AAV. Dubas has three big trade chips yet to move in Karlsson, rust and Rakell. Also Jarry with cap space can be moved with smaller retention as well. I see Karlsson and Jarry moved this off season and probably Rust. Dubas will begin the calls ups of a couple WB guys as well.

GREAT.......Now I get to see how Danton Heinen is a great player with all these awesome advanced stats metrics stapled to Geno's wing for the rest of his career.

So if the pick is 13 or higher we get next year’s pick? Of the Rangers?

Fernstrom is intriguing but judging by him not making the U20 team I also don’t think he’s increased his value much since being a 3rd rounder. Still eligible for the team next year though, and will probably be there.

Not sure Pens can pick which year if Rangers are 14 or higher. But bestcase scenario is Rangers suck next year and Pens have a high pick, Dubas will have nice picks from other trades plus prospects.

Yeah agree- esp bc he didn’t make it despite having a good U18

I kinda hope it’s this year’s pick just so we can get this rebuild started finally. Our pick, maybe in the 4-6 range, and a mid-teens 1st, just grab some kid that was in the top 10 but fell because he interviewed poorly or couldn’t do any pull-ups at the combine or had a mild injury.

RIP the Dragon, he was a lovely man
:(

Great trade, we got a 1st for Petts without retaining or committing to another contract past next year.

Not much else to say.

In all seriousness this is a pretty solid return for two players that the Pens absolutely did not stand to benefit from keeping, especially considering the upcoming cap hikes. Heinen is a (somewhat) better player than O'Connor, Desharnais kinda sucks but it doesn't matter that much, and they got a 1st round pick and prospect. I don't have any complaints about this move.

I don’t see how anyone can be against this deal. I figured we’d just get a second rounder for MP28. To get a first is great. If you don’t want to give it an A because we took back contracts of meh to not great players, that’s fine but we’re going to be bad next year anyways and neither of them are signed beyond next year.

First round condition is a win win for us too. That has the potential to be a top 15 pick this year and at worst top 20 this year. If not, then the pick gets moved to next year in a deeper draft. With the chance of the Rangers imploding.

If anything those two will help the tank

Wow, I completely missed this last night.

Pretty happy with the return. Hopefully, a ~15th overall and recent 3rd rounder plus cap dumps that can be flipped next year for two guys we had no future here.

Dubi with another trade win!

What am I supposed to be happy about? Dubas came in to keep this team competitive and now we are already setting up the roster for an even shittier year next year taking on dorks like Heinen.

It’s embarrassing. It sucks to see him throw in the towel. But, solid trade for DOC and Petts.

Completely disagree with the mindset Dubas has had here since he got here and he’s handicapped this franchise incredibly in such a short time frame it is honestly impressive.

I seriously think Sid may walk.
I love how you create your own narrative and then twist it to suit your argument of the hour.

Love the deal actually. I like Desharnais coming back. Our blueline needs some edge to it.

Heinen is just a more expensive DOC. Key is the 1st. No idea about the prospect.
Heinen was thrown in to make the deal work. I’m ok with that. Overall, solid work

I did not know Heinen and Desharnais were signed through next year for over $4 million combined. Gotta dump at least one of those because that’s garbage.

I could see Dasharnais finding a home on the 3rd pair because he brings stuff we don’t have but Heinen just blocks one of our many forward prospects that are NHL-ready.

This sub is strange,

We can't trade everyone or else we will never be able to hit the cap floor.... we still need to fill out a roster of players. We need to get younger, we need prospects and draft picks, we need to preserve the core and make sure we get them to the playoffs , we need to sell off everything and tear it down.

This trade literally covers everything but the core and playoffs playoffs part which I think most who say that are in jest, I hope anyways,

How can this be perceived by anyone as other than a win? The 1st, a 3rd round Prospect, 2 contracts that are easy to bury or sit for AHL players, getting rid of competent players, who were very inconsistent this season, that may walk at the end of the season for nothing.

I shit on them a lot, but I really hope Doc and Pettersson turn it around for Vancouver and contribute enough to make that a win for them as well. Really like the Canucks, the fan base is insanely fun and chaotic.

keep in mind these contracts coming in won't matter on a team like ours due to the cap going up almost 8 million next year, and potentially 3 retention spots if Dubas doesn't use one by the deadline.
