I don't understand how so few people understand how a hockey team is actually run, some of the reactions to these deals have been so mind numbingly terrible.

Boeser is probably going to be traded for a 1st or some package that involves a young cost controlled player who projects to either be a #4D or middle 6 forward.

IF Boeser is dealt then I am certain Pettersson will be dealt in the offseason for a Cozens/Byram package.

I'm not ready to go that far just yet...but this season has shaken my faith in their competence....they're definitely "on notice" right now. This organization can't afford to put themselves in a position to lose Quinn Hughes in 2 years so they need to right this ship in short order.
Rutherford is so short term. The plan is forever changing.

Well after sleeping on it I'm even more mad today. Canucks are exceptionally gifted at constantly burning assets. Eventually it's gotta catch up to us.
I agree. Like the main argument for trading Miller is that he’ll be 37 by the end of his contract, yet we’re cheering for Marcus Pettersson, soon 29 to be re-signed until he’s 35-37?

I would have given that pick up, even a bit more for someone like Byram instead, at least his age matches up to Hughes better, and has more two-way upside.

We’re just treadmilling once again and having to buy ourselves out of scouting mistakes they’ve inflicted upon themselves over and over.

Can we just at least embrace the fact that we’re gonna have..

Hughes Hronek
3Petey Willander
Soucy Myers
Dpetey Mancini
Forbort

Honestly, that is so nice to look at compared to what we had before.

We absolutely have to sign 3Petey asap, wow he’s excited about the trade, and the cap is going up so significantly, I feel we can still get them for a decent offer like 5.5 million x 5

Good morning, how’s everybody feeling?

Overall it’s an absolute nightmare. You watch teams all over the NHL draft for the power forward unicorn that can score, hit, fight and will the team to victory and we have one and the personnel inside the locker room couldn’t mature enough to just get along. Unbelievable levels of immaturity.

We’ve went through Bernier, Virtanen etc etc trying to find a Miller.

Because they’re such babies we have to dump him for penny’s on the dollar and end up with an even weaker top 6 in a league where you need grit, size and determination.

Miller as a personality may or may not be missed by some of his team mates but his year last year was one of the best in Canucks history and we will be searching and unsuccessfully drafting players we hope to be him for many many years.

Honestly, it’s the first time I have ever been so frustrated with specific players on Vancouver, because we were close, I don’t care what anybody says, we were so f***ing close if they just got along.

At the deadline this year we would’ve picked up a top 4D, and some forward depth.

The drama absolutely killed our season, an hour in full-blown desperation mode, let’s hope it works out because if it doesn’t, you fire absolutely f***ing everybody

DeBrusk-Pettersson-Boeser
Joshua-Chytil-Garland
O'Conner-Suter-Sherwood
Hoglander-Blueger-Raty
PDG-Karlsson

Hughes-Myers
Pettersson-Hronek
Forbort-Soucy
Juulsen

To me, this is a pretty vanilla lineup, nothing screams "personality", and it's probably not going to scare the top teams, but it's a decent middle of the pack bubble team, good enough to sneak into the playoffs and get some home gates for ownership.

Not small, Hughes/Hog/Garland/Suter are the only players sub 6', but not tough.

Despite having one of the top few offensive players in the world in Hughes, scoring goals could be a big problem. Boeser's production could slip without JTM, and he doesn't have the foot speed that would make a long term, big dollar contract a wise move. Does Chytil have some untapped upside? Is Lekkerimaki ready to be the guy fairly quick?

Tocchet's coaching the team like it's the 2019/20 Coyotes, so maybe this is all we can expect?

I'd like to see:
- a finisher added up front
- more toughness, a heavyweight able to play a regular shift
- more good Canadian kids

These guys are 3rd liners with Cythil maybe a 2nd liner when he's in good form. He is a 45-50 pts guy at best if he can stay healthy. Saying that they are some kind of players that would influence the team is pure hopium. We upgraded the defence and got rid of Miller but we did lost a lot of offensive quality that will impact all the lines. With all his problems Miller should have returned at least a legit high end 2nd line player. Yesterday, JR looked like "prime" Jimbo.

The forward lines look putrid right now. We have only 2 players that can be considered 1st line players in Pete and Brock + two low end 2nd liners in DeBrusk and Garland. Forward wise we look like a loterry team. At least we'll have cap space in the summer. We need to go big game hunting.

Good morning, how’s everybody feeling?

I think the Canucks are trying to make chicken salad out of a chicken shit situation. Jury’s still out on all the moves yesterday until we lock up Marcus Pettersson to an extension, and I don’t think we are done making moves yet.

Getting that 1st was key. Flipping that for Pettersson was key. Getting rid of Desharnais (and to a lesser extent Heinen) was good work. Chytil had some ability, I’m scared if his injury history - but he and O’Connor are both big, fast forwards. And Mancini is interesting.

But still just overwhelmingly shocked and distressed that it came to this, and just mystified that we are here. I’m sure there’s more going on behind the scenes than we will likely ever know, but to have had such a good run last year with a team that seemed to be gelling only to be where we are now…it sucks. We were always going to give up the best player in a Miller trade, and we did. He loved it here, Vancouver loved him, and his family loved it here and was loved in return. For something to have gone so badly so as to blow it up…I’m just stunned.

So, a melting pot of thoughts there. Thought we did solid enough on the deals given the circumstances. But I hate that we ended up here at all.

Miller return was expected, trading the first was expected. Not setting any conditions on that the first is worrisome, but if the Rangers finish in the top 19 it's all moot.

The defense will be exponentially better. Which should help make our goalies lives easier.

We're faster up front. Couple that with better transition, it'll be an advantage.

I don't think their done yet though.

To me it definitely looks like the Canucks prioritized speed in the guys they acquired. Which is important because they have been slow as molasses this year. Miller particularly, I noticed him in the last few games leaving the O zone early so he's in position to play defense and not chase the game.

The only unfortunate piece is that there's no sub-30 center worth a damn going to free agency this year. People looking for another top-4 D in a Boeser trade I think are missing the fact we need a young center pretty badly, with no prospects in the queue.

I was accepting of the JT Miller trade because he had to go—it was only going to do more damage if he stayed.

But I was pretty disappointed that they traded that 1st round pick just for Marcus Pettersson and to dump some cap hits. It feels like they sold low on the value of that draft pick.

However, this morning I am slightly more optimistic about what they did. They did major surgery to give this group this year the opportunity to get back into the playoffs. And if things do go off the rails (like, Hughes is injured, or EP40 disappoints) they may still have an opportunity to sell at the deadline and flip Marcus Pettersson to recoup that 1st.

They gave themselves more options going forward than what they had yesterday.

I've been so down on the Canucks this season to the point that I stopped watching the last month. However... I think they made the right moves yesterday and I think the clock is ticking on Boeser... so not gonna judge them just on these moves yet. My interest is piqued again.

I think the weight of Miller's presence being lifted off a lot of players will make a bigger difference than we think.

Fair to assume we will throw the bank at Bennett hoping he can become Miller just to find out he is worse in every way except cheap hits
