Kings and Sharks both end their seasons Saturday, a day earlier than 20 teams.

Any hopes this means their series 1) might have their dates determined earlier than the other series, and 2) is pretty much guaranteed to start on Wednesday?

Looks like Hertl may be back as well.

Tomas Hertl (knee) is expected to be ready to play when the postseason begins next week.

His timing should be off and now he has to put his big boy pants on as the playoffs are a different animal all together.

He has been skating with the team since Feb. 26 and if he gets clearance soon then there's a chance that he will be able to play in one of the Sharks' last two regular season games. Hertl hasn't played since Dec. 19 and he underwent surgery to repair the PCL and MCL in his knee on Dec. 31.

Not gonna lie, I was happy about those two guys being out. Their forward depth was already disgusting and now they're adding top 6 forward and a devastating bottom 6er who also can chip in offensively.

Gonna be a great series.

Hertl cleared to play and will be dressed tonight for the Sharks.

Confirmation of it. This will definitely be a boost for the Sharts.

Injury

Hertl (knee) has been cleared to play and will return to the lineup Friday vs. the Avalanche.

Hertl has not played since December 19, when he suffered the injury on a hit by the Kings’ Dustin Brown. In 35 games, Hertl has 15 goals and 10 assists for 25 points, playing primarily on the left wing of Joe Thornton and Brent Burns. Hertl was originally expected to miss the rest of the regular season, but he will be back for the final home game of the season and playoffs.

I just dont have a good feeling going up against the Sharks. I hope I'm wrong.

If Sutter doesn't make adjustments it will be just like last year with the home team winning every game.

One thing that is encouraging is the fact that Sutter has been starting MR out in the defensive zone less and less as the season went along. Mclellan is going to try and exploit the Thornton vs. Richards match up like he did in the games in SJ last year. Sutter needs to make sure he is using Kopitar and Stoll as much as possible in the defensive zone, if you think I am full of crap or "hating" head over to the SJ board the possession on SF/SA stats are posted in the series thread.

I am optimistic about the series because of our huge advantage in goal, but if the Kings move Carter back to rw like they did last night the Sharks dominate us down the middle.

I'll say Kings in 6.

Always good to know Torres will be back just in time to injure someone in the playoffs. Guess we'll see who will walk on that landmine in a week.

We're also quite worried about Dustin Brown's extremities of injustice. :) That said, I am not convinced Torres will be in there next week. The team says he is conditioning and could play if needed, but I have a feeling they may be covering up a re-aggrivation of some sort. I'd say he's likely to play, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if he's still out.

Speaking of "extremities of injustice", I'm concerned about Hertl.

Kid hasn't been in the league very long, and already tried to stick out a vicious knee.

Clearly Torres Jr. in training. :)

I know you're joking and to keep from messing with things I won't comment further. :) I'm hoping for a great series and I think we'll get one. The new playoff format is stupid, this should be a third round series, not a first. It sucks that one of these teams will be done two weeks from now. Can't wait for Wednesday!

It's not the playoff format, it's just that there are a lot of good teams in the West. Go back to the previous format, and the Sharks and Hawks are playing in the 1st round. Easily a 3rd round worthy match-up. Kings and Blues would play in the 1st. Again, easily a later round match-up. No matter what the format is, two of the better teams in the West will be out after the 1st round.

I've read some people say that they maybe get bored with teams meeting in the playoffs all the time. I don't happen to share that opinion. I love that the Kings and Sharks are playing 3 out of the last 4 years. I hope they meet for the next 5 years. That's how you build something. The Kings are Sharks were in the same division for 20 years before they met in the playoffs. That's a long time.

Yep. This may be just the spark that gets the sharx going. I still like our chances, but it won't come easy.

I feel like they gain and lose confidence quickly. If this gives them a spark it may help for a few games, but it also may die out quickly. Much like we saw the Blues fire die quickly after their first loss in the series last year. Sharks will come out strong, but whether they can maintain it is what will be telling in the series.
