It's becoming spectacular.

19 games in, he's leading his team in scoring by 9 points, on a team that was a bottom dweller last year but is among the top this year. About half of his team is in minus on a +/-. he is leading his team in that and is T-4th in the whole league. Then 2nd in scoring among all skaters.

He's on the soft side but looks like he's a gamer and on his way to our top 4 soon.

PS
Regarding his defense, it seemed pretty ok in the TC:

When we drafted him he sounded a lot like Klingberg.

I desperately do not want that to happen now.
I actually liked the Sergachev comp better, and watching him i see it a lot more.

Hes pretty unique player imo, only his 2nd season playing in north america. I think he was a great pick at 10, and i think there was a ton of room for him to improve as a player, i thought his defensive game got way underrated (it needs improvement sure, but i dont think it was nearly as bad as people made it out). Definitely excited to watch him progress.

Zubov is a pretty solid comparison also

Is he physical at all?

Out of the three OFDs in our draft range, I wanted Minty over Korchinski and Mateychuk.

Holy crap, Korchinski has a 1.50 ppg (21 pts in 14 games) rate with a +14 rating this year?! He's keeping up with Minty.

I prefered Korchinski, I think he will be a stud. But so far not too upset about Minty as well, lol.

I think going into the draft I didn't expect Minty to be available when it got round to us, and we were going to go with Korchinski. Anyway, early days.

Saginaw has a healthy lead in terms of points from Dmen so far this year, of course led by Mintyukov accounting for 28 of their 65 points (42.4%)

In fact, if no other Saginaw D had yet recorded a point, they would not be last in the league in D scoring. Minty currently has more points than the entire defensive core of two OHL teams, and is right there with another group of four teams who all have 31 or less total points from their respective back ends. It's pretty incredible what he's doing so far this year.

I thought Korchinski was very 1 dimensional, thought Mintyukov had more room to grow as a 2 way guy

Denton is another short OFD at 5'11. We have two already in Drysdale and Zellweger. So he's a no-no for me.

Both Korchinski (6'1) and Minty (6'1) are taller OFD's.

Korchinski's defensive game in video scouting reports was very repetitive and he couldn't improve throughout the season. Also, he lived on the blue line and rarely came down to pinch, which Mintyukov often did.

I'd rather have a more creative OFD in Minty than a point OFD like Korchinski. Plus, I was thinking that Minty would fit perfectly in an Eakins' offensive scheme of always greenlighting his defensemen to pinch.

Korchinski also had the turning speed of the titanic from the clips I saw of him leading into the draft when we were rumored to be going after him, I was ecstatic when Chicago picked him and we got Mintyukov instead, nothing in any of his highlights really stood out to me as impressive, Mintyukov, on the other hand, looked unreal.

I haven't seen any of Korchinski's season this year so far but he's leading the WHL in points for defensemen so he's clearly doing well but I'm still happy we got Mintyukov instead.

I cant imagine a world where Eakins ever coaches Mintyukov, unless its in the AHL.

Watching Korchinski Mintyukov and Mateychuk last year, i thought Mintyukov was the most raw but with the most untapped upside.

Korchinski is doing really well, but his team also seems to be pretty stacked. Mintyukov, on the other hand, has 28 points on a team where the second best scorer has 19 points. :cheer:

I've heard Korchinski has a 'muffin shot' like Fowler.
Mintyukov has a better shot and is very good at putting the puck in the back of the net.
OHL tougher league than WHL as well.

Saginaw has traded their captain and one of their top veteran forwards in Josh Bloom, to North Bay for a package of younger players and picks. This is likely a strong indicator that they are choosing to not make a big push this season, and will instead choose to build around their young core (including exceptional status F Misa).

Mintyukov becomes a very strong trade candidate between now and the OHL's January trade deadline.

That's not good for his numbers in the short term
