He got his 1st career goal and point in today's win against the Hurricanes

His 1st NHL game he had 17:58 TOI against Vegas and in his 2nd NHL game today he had 18:11 TOI. What are your thoughts so far on him?

For a 19 year old playing with our worst dmen on the roster, hes looked pretty fantastic.

Hes creative and aggressive in the O zone, skates well in transition
he seems to know how to win puck battles in the dzone and use his size and body well in those puck battles.

Ive said it before, but he came into the draft super underrated on his defensive game... based on his high risk high reward, 4th forward style game in saginaw... and never got to show case it until post draft.

I think hell be dynamic on the power play when he gets the chance to play with the skilled guys. I have a feeling hes going to play on the team all year.

I dont think hes really showed many flaws so far (maybe a little over aggresive at times in the ozone, but i think you dont coach that out of him, cause thats the part of his game thats going to make him special) , outside of a couple shifts where he got stuck out on the ice for a bit.

First, this thread will likely be merged. (dammit, not first lol)

Knew he had the offensive game and confidence. I think he's our shot at a true #1 that can play in all situations. Wasn't aware that this kid might be downright mean and nasty on the defensive end of the ice. His aggressiveness with his stick and body, along the boards, etc. has been impressive given his age. Sticking up for teammates and throwing your nose in the mix as a 19 year takes some balls when that's not your game.

Put him on the top PP unit, take the training wheels off fully. I know Cam had a great point producing year, and I'm a Cam supporter, but save his energy for ES.

Can't remember the last time that I loved a player this quickly

Both Mintyukov and Jiricek got their first NHL goals in first week of the season, they were both my favorite Dmen in the 2022 NHL draft. Their more shooters than Nemec/Korchinski and less soft too.

Damn is he a dynamic player, and loving his nastiness. It's a bonus that is sorely needed and what you want out of a D-man who's expected to do it all. As has been stated, the best chance at developing a real #1 since Cam kinda stalled out. He has so much confidence with the puck, and good instincts in knowing when to pinch, when to pass it, etc. So far his aggressiveness hasn't burned him. He also hasn't looked out of place or got caught in a bad postion in the D zone, which is pretty amazing for a 19yo (though i didn't see the final 2 periods against Vegas).

There will be growing pains for sure, but he'll be a guy dictating the play when he's on the ice in no time.

Was Minty physical at all in juniors? I remember all the scouting reports/videos showing he had a good stick and could poke the puck off a forward's stick and turn that into offense. Also that his defense was a work in progress. If anything, it looks like he's toning back the offense he showed in the highlights and actually playing like a 2 way D with good offensive instincts instead of a 4th forward (which I think he was called a lot). I might need to get another blank jersey to get #34 on the back, already ordered 91.

Not that I remember, but I didn't watch too much of his junior games day to day. I remember him using his size and reach effectively, but not being physical. People sometimes think physical means only big hits, but Pronger was a mean, physical SOB with his stick and that was one of his better attributes that made him hard to play against. Being physical doesn't mean only throwing big hits. Pronger used to remind forwards on every single shift that he was there and wasn't going anywhere.

Be thankful he’s not calling him “Drysdale”
Amazing how many of you are so quick to defend stephens, an obvious hack who chases the money and has no real love of ducks hockey… Yet a true lifer employee/fan loyalist like ahlers, who’s been good over the years. And is clearly y on mental decline. Many of you tear him down as well as hayzee for “ being a homer”

I think the OP is more just making a joke at how Ahlers is notorious around here for calling out the wrong players. Nothing too serious.
