Glad to see Buchnevich take advantage of this latest opportunity. So what if it was because of that atrocious turnover by Vesey. When opportunity knocks you better answer and Pavel did last night. Hope he keeps it up!

vesey is another teflon guy.

hes a college guy so he fits quinns bill. hes as plain vanilla as they come. no emotion. robotic.

pionk same.

on ice play doesnt matter if you practice well. intentions >results.

nice. we'll go far with that.

i played college golf. im a 2 handicap today.

in golf, everyone is scratch on the range. high soft cuts, tight bullet draws, every chip is close and every 8 ftr goes in on the practice green.

then you tee off and shoot 80.

intentions mean shit. results matter. period.

quinns a clown.

Rangers are trying to reset their culture first. Results don't matter right now...playing the right way does. Accountability does.

Quinn wants you to play hard. That's job 1. If you don't do that you don't play.

Say what you want about vesey but the guy isn't lazy.

What you saw last night is exactly why it's so vital to change the culture. Buch responds and plays like a monster.

Imagine you get that every game?

What's a 40 point player who disappears for huge swaths of the season worth versus an 60 poi t one whose engaged for every game.

I approve of what quinns doing.

Torts was too hard on guys.

AV was too soft.

Quinn is too hard on guys.

Maybe the answer is that we're never going to be happy and message boards allow people to be contrarians in a way that they'd hesitate to be in real life.

It's times like these when we could use an "empty sarcastic laugh" emoji.

A lot of people are comparing Buch's treatment to the treatment of guys like Howden, Staal and Vesey. That's the wrong approach. This is a Buch vs. Buch thing. It's become pretty clear that this coach has different expectations for each player. It's not about winning games this season (isn't this what many of you want? Lose every game possible?) this is about setting a tone and helping players reach their potential. I love Buch, but if this stunts his progression or makes him want to play elsewhere that's on him. Funny though, Chytil started on the 4th line this year did what was asked of him and he's been great. Zib is having a monster season. Even Vesey is on pace for his best year, statistically. Deangelo sat last night because of his shitty attitude and he's been solid. Isn't this how a coach should be developing young players?

Yep. I think quinns done a terrific job of setting his expectations, and following thru with it.

Is he flawless? No. I'm low on pionk and don't understand his usage at all...but it all makes sense within the expectations...reset the culture first...get everyone to buy in...that's step 1. Step 2 is to identify which players fit within the culture and I think they've done a great job there as well. Step 3 is to put the guys within the team structure who are long term pieces in position to win.

That 3rd part is still at least 2 years away imho.

Agree. For some reason there's a notion around here that seems to boil down to this - if a player is more skilled or otherwise has a higher potential - Quinn should cut him a bigger slack. I think this is backwards. Quinn appropriately is and should be more, not less demanding of higher caliber players like Buchnevich.

Vesey was practically crying on the bench after his turnover. If he's scratched he'll be broken. Limit his minutes on the 4th line and let him simplify his game...again. Like Maloney said on the radio, the longer Vesey holds the puck, the less effective he is.

it's a good thing he isn't one of those soft Russians I keep hearing about :sarcasm:

To me, it's physical limitations that will prevent him from reaching his potential. We can talk all day about effort/tenacity/etc, and maybe that's a problem off the ice as far as training in the gym. Just speculation of course. But if you can't hold onto the puck, struggle along the walls, and are an average at best skater, it's going to be tough in this league. The fact he's produced like he has is a testament to his natural ability.

I think some of the love for Buchnevich within the fanbase has to do with how barren the system was when he was drafted. He's got major holes in his game and his compete level kind of sucks. I see him back in the KHL within the next few years, either by choice or because no one likes him in their bottom six.

One of my main fears about this rebuild. Was hoping he would be a major contributor to it's success. Andersson also but we have time still there.
