Quinn wants his wingers to be hard on the puck. Not get outworked off it and fall over. He wants them to forecheck hard and take the body---not do fly bys. He wants some grit out of each and every one of them. It doesn't mean they need to drop gloves and fight but they're expected to hit and take hits and muck and grind. This is stuff by the way that Kucherov and Pastrnak (players with similar skillsets) do. It's hard and it's work. Quinn doesn't want lazy play---he wants players that play hard all the time. And Buch goes to sleep quite often and he's not hard on the puck all the time---not from what I see anyway. I'll note that Chytil's figured out most of that stuff already and he's 19. Howden's a much younger player too---though I agree that some time in Hartford certainly wouldn't hurt him.

This year is about teaching and building a culture on the team. The staff could care less if you score 1 goal or 50 as long as you are playing the right way. This season means nothing if they dont teach the kids how to play.

Agreed. Now it's up to Buchnevich to decide how he wants to take being a HS. Does he say, "That was embarrassing. I need to step it up" or does he say "You scratched me and were shutout"?

Lol, it's as if this article was written by one of the members here who prefer not to hear about what separate's Buchnevich's treatment by Quinn from Howden's, Marc Staal (lol again) or similarities to ADA's to make a proper conclusion.
Its true though

Yes, it`s hard to get an accurate evaluation about Pavel this season, because his coach want him to do things on the ice which he struggle with obviously how he play in his system which include a lot of different aspects of his game also including effort level, ethic has been mentioned.

Quinn want their players to earn ice time no doubts about that - otherwise we will see limited ice time for certain players and 4th line duties.

But for me and some other Canuck fans projected Pavel into their top 6 and I think it`s just an odd situation though with other sources on the internet. But maybe Rangers fans think we have an agenda against their new coach. :)

No it's not. There are differences in expectations given status as a rooking, young vet or back-9 vet. That's why actual performance relative to expected are being addressed differently. Howden wouldn't be given the same opportunities if the Rangers were competing and finalizing its roster for playoffs. So rather than scream "unfair" toward Quinn, it would be good to consider what coaching staff expects or values and does actual performance stack up against these expectations. Not just in games but in practices too.

And Staal and Howden have not lived up to their expectations. Just cuz staal has been around longer shouldnt mean he has a longer leash if hes been this consistently bad for years now

The clock is ticking on Buch. As I mentioned many times, this team is full of play-makers. Buch needs to be much better, if he wants to stay here as a play-maker.

To me, it's physical limitations that will prevent him from reaching his potential. We can talk all day about effort/tenacity/etc, and maybe that's a problem off the ice as far as training in the gym. Just speculation of course. But if you can't hold onto the puck, struggle along the walls, and are an average at best skater, it's going to be tough in this league. The fact he's produced like he has is a testament to his natural ability.

Well, if/when Zucc and Hayes leave, we won’t have many. Zib is primarily a sniper, Kreider is a sniper/power forward, Buch can be a playmaker/sniper, and Vesey/Chytil/Howden/Names/Boo/Fast are either not playmakers or are not good enough to be top 6 playmakers.

Play-maker? Who do you mean that's better than Buch after TDL?

Also by those who don't seem to realize that winning or losing doesn't really matter to this team right now. Putting Buch in and rewarding him for his bad habits may make this team better but it might make him a worse player in the long run and poison the culture.

Development is what's important here... his and the rest of the team's

I remember his first NHL season he had 41 games and was out remaining of the season with back problems.
In his second NHL season was AV last, but he was up and down in the lineup throughout his season which ended with 74 games. And I remember many that was not happy about AV decisions at the time playing him at the bottom 6 role with limited ice time, but AV had reasons and I`ve notion it was his physical limitations and still is today.

Quinn asked Pavel to improve in different areas of his gameplay, but not seen much progression and he will not be rewarded top line minutes based on that reasoning. It could be as simple as he need proper physic training to have a chance to compete at this level which is true, because he sometimes get knocked off the puck too easy and puck control which is important.

I swear it's Groundhog Day around here. Every night, Quinn explains perfectly clearly that someone is benched for not playing the right way. And every morning someone complains that Quinn doesn't care about talent or winning.

This team is literally built to win 30 games. God forbid Buchnevich's point total drops from 40 to 30 this year learning new elements to the game.

Buch has had stretches like this so we know he could bring it. It’s about not “forgetting” to bring it to every game.

Buch when he gives it every shift can be a player, I just dont know why he let's up half of the time. Quinn imo is doing the right thing holding his feet to the fire.
