the buffalo loss was the final nail in the coffin. Jets ownership and management made their mind to make a change...and allowed Maurice the option to resign instead of being fired. Happens whenever there is lots of mutual respect. The last few seasons jets had a weak blueline so they gave maurice the benefit of the doubt...but this year....no excuses. Now lets see what Lowry does to shake things up.

This is representative of the class with which the Jets conduct business. It's clear that this wasn't a firing or a resignation, but rather an exit plan for both the Jets and Maurice at a time when change was inevitable.
When an employer and employee can part ways like this it shows that both parties have the team's best interests at heart.

The team's best interests and the ex-employee's best interests too, I'd say. Maurice might be thinking retirement, but he may want a job elsewhere too.

I wouldn't be all that surprised to see him join our front office at some point if that is what he wants. I'm sure he could offer something there.

It seemed like the writing was on the wall. Really glad Maurice didn't get weird and try to hang on. Now he gets to keep his dignity.

I remember driving on the Winnipeg perimeter and hearing on 1290 that noel was fired. Seems like aaaaaaaaages ago. Time for something new.

Maurice had his chance in 2018 for a cup, that was probably the best team he's ever had.

Let’s put Paul in charge of scouting and player development.

Class guy, nice guy and all that but he was just a few losses away from the pink slip!
Agree. Mau' should have been fired for not throwing sticks, pucks, assistant coaches, the glass behind the bench at the refs in the Carolina game on Aho's illegal, goaltender interference allowed goal. Maurice's response was to bark "Eff'off, effen _ull-_hit". He should have regrouped the troups, benched Scheifele for enigmatic effort and staying over his shifts too long. Then requested charging their net and goalie and bumping their defenders into the net, the rest of the way. Anyhow, hoping for a new approach from the bench. A new deployment back to successful play, teamwise, when Scheifele was out and Wheeler.

Chevy did say that Paul was being taken care of. I'm assuming that means they will pay him to the end of the year and maybe even a bonus and not "take care of him" in the mob sense.

If you want to see an assistant coach taking over and having lots of success while making distinct changes....look 8 hours to the south at the Wild.

Dean Evason has been incredibly impressive replacing Boudreau and if I remember correctly conversations were similar about him as the ones we are having about Lowry.

Just because you coached with someone doesn't mean you have the same views, you contribute, but you don't get final say and you have to provide a united front to the team.

Interm coach is a terrible idea though team will be in limbo. Is this our coach or not? Tons of good options out there right now. True north or chevy whoever is responsible botched it

Yeah but they had to try everything to save this season given the moves we made in offseason.
Not alot of hope for big change and organizational shakeup due to past showing and attrition of mediocrity acceptance from ownership/ management.
Good on Paul to walk away realizing his abilities were stuck in quick sand with this organization.

No… Maurice had the job and had zero heat to keep it.
Lowry is coaching to get the job and has lots of heat to keep it.

I don't know how long or short DL's leash is, but I suspect he has a very different understanding of the team and the game than PM does, and I won't be surprised if he thinks that playing your best instead of your favoured players might help win games. Not impossible that he views some of the youth as good options for a rejuvenated team. I don't expect Gus to be sent down if he makes a mistake nor do I expect to see 55 playing 25 minutes with indifferent effort.

Who knows how it will go, but if there's been a time this season beyond the first game to be hopeful, surely that time is now.

[Cue theme from St Elmo's Fire....]

I think the response to the game over the last couple of days qouodve had something to do with it.
