Warden of the North
Ned Stark's head
The way his tenure ended in Toronto always left a bad taste in my mouth. Really happy to see him have success now.
My neutral observation is that nobody is comparing him to Bowman or anybody else. 26 years and 1 is better than 26 and none10 tiers below a guy like Bowman. Probably a few tiers below Quenville and Sutter too. 26 years 1 title. The leash was long with this one.
Imagine if the final next year is between the Panthers and their Southeast division rival Winnipeg. So why did he say he hoped the Jets win the next cup?
I know he coached them but he also coached the Hurricanes and Leafs.
Winnipeg was clearly a player issue. Not gonna lie. Thought he was terrible in Winnipeg.
I think history will remember that they won the cup. Not a big deal will be made about almost getting reverse swept. With all due respect, he was almost one goal from joining Todd McLellan in the reverse sweep category. It’s great they got this far but getting so close to getting reverse swept is a bad look regardless of the outcome.
But he didn't join McLellan, and his team won the Cup. So this hypothetical scenario where he fails isn't reality and has no bearing on what he ACTUALLY achieved. With all due respect, he was almost one goal from joining Todd McLellan in the reverse sweep category. In the land of cope the denial man is king. But he didn't join McLellan, and his team won the Cup. So this hypothetical scenario where he fails isn't reality and has no bearing on what he ACTUALLY achieved.
He was so up and down with Hartford/Carolina 1995-2003...he leaves and they win the cup 3 years later lol but to be fair he did get them to the final in 02. No one was beating Detroit that year, they were basically an all-star team up front with Hasek in goal. I did enjoy Irbe vs Hasek, two awesome and very unorthodox goalies. Not gonna lie. Thought he was terrible in Winnipeg.
The reality is that the series should never have gotten to 7 games with a crippled McDavid, Draisatl and Kane and a borderline AHL goaltender in Skinner. But he didn't join McLellan, and his team won the Cup. So this hypothetical scenario where he fails isn't reality and has no bearing on what he ACTUALLY achieved.
Should’ve could’ve who gives a f***. We got the cupThe reality is that the series should never have gotten to 7 games with a crippled McDavid, Draisatl and Kane and a borderline AHL goaltender in Skinner.
Hell yeah!! Stanley Cup Champion
Not gonna lie. Thought he was terrible in Winnipeg.
I agree with the rest of your post, but one minor quibble- Hellebuyck will quite easily be a HoFer.Winnipeg had a good roster, but nobody on the level of HHOF.
