As soon as we realize Laine won’t be a role model in the Mark Messier or Jean Beliveau mold the better.

not many thought Messier was so special when he was in and around Vancouver city.
The bigger picture is how soft Montteal's response was. Your team mate talked shit and got targeted, yeah, that's stupid on his part. But he is your team mate and you stick up for him... Habs did nothing. Too soft as always and I'm sick of it.

Agreed. He had that leader myth built up in New York. It was a different perception in Vancouver.
My point is this team might have heroes, but Laine is more of an antihero.
Then we're both blind because I didn't see any targeted hit that was supposed to hurt him either.
On the contrary, I saw some nice passes (6) under pressure, which freed up space for teammates, something Habs fans never once mentioned. I think he may have felt some discomfort after Fabbro's hit, as he had a broken collarbone and had that area cleaned up over the summer. But the hit was clean and Laine was in such a position that Dante could only take the hit to the left side.
Me too, I watched the pre game interviews from habs youtube and none of it was there, he was being nice and kinda avoiding the questions.
I'd like to hear/see the context and questions. We all know Portzline wouldn't shy away from creating an issue, how they got there is something I'd like to disect

Laine was there long enough to know how the Columbus reporter operates. I know he has been critical of Laine in the past as well.
Airing this type of stuff adds spice for us but from a player/team point of view, it's best to leave these away from reporters.
Lesson learned for Laine hopefully, because if he talks to much about montreal affairs in the media, that will be a circus of a whole different scale.

Absolutely..............there are many perameters and boxes to check, but 8 goals in 10 games, is an interesting stat. Beggars can't be...............but there are many things to consider.

No, the Oilers didn’t win because of Sévigny’s comment. The '81 Oilers were a burgeoning powerhouse, effortlessly sweeping the Habs by dominating in every aspect - skill, coaching, goaltending, and team chemistry. The Habs were struggling on all fronts and would’ve lost regardless. The point I was trying to make is, why antagonize your opponents and inadvertently fuel their fire? Let your performance speak for itself, and only then maybe open your yap - less egg on your face this way.

Because trash talking is fun. People do it in other sports and I don't think they have your style of puritanism about it.
Definitively thinking about the Christmas break in the first period, but to say they did nothing isn't all true - they fought back to take the lead and if it wasn't for a selfish penalty by CC, they may have won the game, maybe even won it for their teammate, Laine.
Perhaps, but trash talk often backfires and makes them look like clowns. If they are comfortable being the laughingstock, they'd better be ready to handle the public criticism, and maybe even their teammates' criticism.
Alright. Being busy as hell with work stuff has kept me quiet for long, but here goes.
I’m a fan of Finnish national hockey team, Laine and Carolina Hurricanes. In that order. Now bear with me a while.
I’ve been following Laine since he was 17 and was making miracles happen first in our WJC team and then in FEL playoffs. He very quickly became my favorite player because of his shot and his willingness to use it. For years I had witnessed our national team playing good, fighting hard and creating chances… but no one pulling the trigger. Especially on power play. Our players could sometimes even run a clinic around the opposing team’s PK unit and pass the puck around like no tomorrow, and I would sit on my couch yelling “SHOOT! SHOOT!” at the TV – for 45 seconds, until someone would fire a weak muffin at the goalies chest.
In this regard, Laine was something else. A player who wouldn’t hog the puck, but fire away every time an opportunity arises. And do it good. We hadn’t had a player like that since Selänne (whose shot wasn’t miraculous at all, but he had the same mindset when it somes to scoring). On top of that, Laine seemed to be immune to pressure: when the games got tougher, he wasn’t afraid to pull off the same stunts. We all know some players can do a single magic trick when their team is up 6-3 in a regular season game on a Wednesday, but Laine attempted to score at every possibility in any occasion – often succeeding. He single-handedly saved Tappara like 3 times in FEL playoffs, and twice in the last seconds of the game.
I was extremely excited to see him develop, because in the beginning, it looked like he would have potential to be the next coming of Lemieux. Now when time has passed, I’m forced to admit that some of that potential was warranted and some of it wasn’t. His offensive skills are still insanely good (his passing abilities are criminally underrated), but he tries too hard to make things happen by himself (and therefore puts himself in a vulnerable position) and is too engaged in offense in order to be continuously good in defensive side of the game. He can do that, too, but it will kill his offensive capabilities, so the tradeoff is not worth it.
I’m still a big fan. He is something unique – in Finnish, the proper word would be “ratkaisija”, which clumsily translates to “solver”. “Difference-maker” is closer, but it is also slightly off. He is not Barkov, who has the ability to carry the whole team on his back to victory by doing everything. He is not the guy who you put on ice when you’re defending a one-goal lead with 1:30 left in the 3rd period. But when you’re the team who’s trailing by one with 50 seconds on the clock and the rest of the team can’t seem to even get the puck in the offensive zone, he’s your man. He has the ability to score that one decisive goal that you need in order to win or get to OT. He is not the heart of the team – he’s a complementary piece. But in that category of pieces, he’s the best IMO.
I hope him and Montreal all the best things in the future.

No team would go on a road trip without an extra forward.
??? Pezz is the extra forward, has been since the season started, only played 3 games.
If Laine is out. Pezz plays. Please tell me who the extra forward is at that point?
