The bigger picture is how soft Montteal's response was. Your team mate talked shit and got targeted, yeah, that's stupid on his part. But he is your team mate and you stick up for him... Habs did nothing. Too soft as always and I'm sick of it.

Agreed. He had that leader myth built up in New York. It was a different perception in Vancouver.

My point is this team might have heroes, but Laine is more of an antihero.

Having watched the various videos because I missed the beginning of the game, I saw two main things.

Laine tried to hit Voronkov who is a rather large gentleman. Voronkov was skating back toward his own net at the time. I don’t know why Laine did that unless he was trying to look tough. Seems like a bad decision by Laine.

Dante Fabbro and Laine were hitting each other with their sticks. Fabbro cross checked Laine. Laine elbowed Fabbro. This is interesting because Fabbro never played with Laine. A lot of the physicality seemed to be the result of Laine setting up in front of the goal and the defenseman trying to get Laine to not screen the goalie.

I watched the last 25 minutes or so of the game live. It looked like a game between two bad, young hockey teams. It didn’t seem like there was any bad blood between the teams. It certainly did not have the feel of a game where one team had been taking cheap shots against the other. I have seen rougher hockey from 14 and 15 year olds than anything I saw in videos from the CBJ-Montreal game.

Then we're both blind because I didn't see any targeted hit that was supposed to hurt him either. On the contrary, I saw some nice passes (6) under pressure, which freed up space for teammates, something Habs fans never once mentioned.

I think he may have felt some discomfort after Fabbro's hit, as he had a broken collarbone and had that area cleaned up over the summer. But the hit was clean and Laine was in such a position that Dante could only take the hit to the left side.

I‘m still looking for the dialogue, the questions that were asked.
The quotes were taken out of context and put together from the BJ‘s beat writer. So of course the whole article is biased.
Portzline has an agenda. I prefer Russo or Johnston if reporting on delicate subjects.
Portz wanted a headline and I‘d bet he kept asking until he got the quote.

Saying publicly what he said is a lack of judgment, but I would no overanalyze this either. Does not mean he is selfish or he tried to put himself first.

And I surely can’t blame him for thinking that. I’m sure many players around the league trash talk in private about their former team (like people with a former employer when things don’t work).

Laine was there long enough to know how the Columbus reporter operates. I know he has been critical of Laine in the past as well.

Airing this type of stuff adds spice for us but from a player/team point of view, it's best to leave these away from reporters.

Lesson learned for Laine hopefully, because if he talks to much about montreal affairs in the media, that will be a circus of a whole different scale.

I think it’s very premature to say we want him to stay. We knew he had problems when he came here. Injuries: He was injured 5 seconds into the preseason and missed three months. Attitude and maturity: the whole Columbus situation was bizarre and kind of displayed some of the character flaws we had heard about. We got him for nothing for a reason. It’s up to him to show he’s worth committing to long term. He isn’t there yet.

Absolutely..............there are many perameters and boxes to check, but 8 goals in 10 games, is an interesting stat. Beggars can't be...............but there are many things to consider.

The '81 Oilers were a burgeoning powerhouse, effortlessly sweeping the Habs by dominating in every aspect - skill, coaching, goaltending, and team chemistry. The Habs were struggling on all fronts and would’ve lost regardless. The point I was trying to make is, why antagonize your opponents and inadvertently fuel their fire? Let your performance speak for itself, and only then maybe open your yap - less egg on your face this way.

Definitively thinking about the Christmas break in the first period, but to say they did nothing isn't all true - they fought back to take the lead and if it wasn't for a selfish penalty by CC, they may have won the game, maybe even won it for their teammate, Laine.

Perhaps, but trash talk often backfires and makes them look like clowns. If they are comfortable being the laughingstock, they'd better be ready to handle the public criticism, and maybe even their teammates' criticism.
