He said it, put it out there, got injured, and we lost. If we had won the game with him in the lineup, the reaction here would have been different.

In the future, it would be wise to give the generic no-emotion answers that hockey players are known for.

I'm all for brutal honesty, but he still should've kept it in the back pocket, in terms of strategy. Keep it for the day after. They came in motivated last night because of him.

Guy scores 8 goals in 9 games, then gets banged up and is likely held out for precautionary reasons with the break coming, and now people have the pitchforks out? Pathetic comments in here. His pre game comments were beyond tame too. Only in the NHL would they be "controversial."

Yes.

He scores goals because he has a good shot.

That's about all he can do, tbh.

He looks pretty bad 5v5. He looks 36yrs old rather than 26, slow slow slow.

Now these classless comments?

We should hire Michel Therrien to be his psychologist.. he will teach him RISPECK, and make him humble.

I'm a little worried honestly. I don't like the comments at all, he jinxed himself and the team. He should have stayed humble. Makes me question his mental health, the whole thing came off egotistical. It's a bad look all around. What's done is done, I hope he learns from this.

According to Anti Chambre, Laine did say good things about certain players like Olivier but as always, the media never publish the entire quote
It's not so much the media than everyone else skipping part of the original article to focus on a few words in a long sentence.

Olivier refused to comment after the game.

Yep bad look. A teachable moment as well and I’m sure MSL is pulling him aside and explaining the facts of life.

First lesson for Laine in Montreal.

The media here aren't your friend, say as little as possible because their job is to build you up, just so the tear down can be more glorious.

I love Laine even more for speaking his mind and saying it like it is. Kovalev used to be like that also. Players used to have more leeway during interviews until Molson showed up.

Was it the smartest thing to say? Probably not but I love my players with some personality and unpredictability. He will be controversial and that’s awesome.

The Athletic article included that nice thing about Olivier. But he did go a bit far in his observations, particularly about fans. He's an oddball for sure. And CBJ did play with greater intensity, particulalry towards him.

I assume this is why Laine was available. Everything he said about team and management could apply to Montreal. I would guess he was trying to draw a more neutral contrast that explained why he's feeling good in Montreal, but ended up talking about differences in effort. Probably meant to say something different. Sounds a bit aspergersish.

Ya no problem with those comments either. We need some cockiness.

Werenski seemed really butt hurt though that was funny

I can't believe posters are in here crying about Character and Respect when we are sitting like 25th in the league lmao

Sucks he got injured but almost like he jinxed himself, you want to see him at his best because his best is as good as anyone in the league as rare as it is to see, but you can’t be at your best if you have a negative mindset like he does and always looking to blame other people.

This guy is the opposite of Marty St Louis, Marty St Louis turned a franchise around and he’s going to do the same in Montreal, maybe the coach can fix him but fixing a brain with a bad attitude is much harder then fixing a back check
Marty wasn't a saint in college so be careful saying he is different.

I love it as a fan of the game. It adds spice to a mundane mid season game between two bad hockey clubs, but it's not smart for the players to be providing other clubs with bulletin board material.

Kovalev could be unfiltered to a certain extent, but I don't recall him providing bulletin board material to the other clubs. Hypothetically, he could probably get away with it because nobody knew how to stop him when he was on his game.

Laine: Trying to play the heel
Fans reactions: Is he on the spectrum?

The bad part of the interview wasn't so much his negative comments about fans and team but that his observations rationalized his depature from CBJ in a way that undermined the "mental health issue" explanation for which he has received incredible love and support. There is a world of difference between saying he took a pause because he struggled with depression and that he asked for a trade because his team wasn't putting in the same effort as he was.

All after a big injury. It takes time. He’s more than a big shot

A strategic decision to protect Laine, according to Renaud Lavoie

According to journalist Renaud Lavoie, the withdrawal of Patrik Laine could be a strategic decision on the part of the Canadiens to avoid him suffering further blows.

Lavoie suggests that the Blue Jackets intentionally sought to physically intimidate their former teammate in retaliation for his statements.

Again...

Laine did this to himself.
