The Athletic article included that nice thing about Olivier. But he did go a bit far in his observations, particularly about fans. He's an oddball for sure. And CBJ did play with greater intensity, particulalry towards him.

I assume this is why Laine was available. Everything he said about team and management could apply to Montreal. I would guess he was trying to draw a more neutral contrast that explained why he's feeling good in Montreal, but ended up talking about differences in effort. Probably meant to say something different. Sounds a bit aspergersish.

Sucks he got injured but almost like he jinxed himself, you want to see him at his best because his best is as good as anyone in the league as rare as it is to see, but you can’t be at your best if you have a negative mindset like he does and always looking to blame other people.

This guy is the opposite of Marty St Louis, Marty St Louis turned a franchise around and he’s going to do the same in Montreal, maybe the coach can fix him but fixing a brain with a bad attitude is much harder then fixing a back check

I love it as a fan of the game. It adds spice to a mundane mid season game between two bad hockey clubs, but it's not smart for the players to be providing other clubs with bulletin board material.

Kovalev could be unfiltered to a certain extent, but I don't recall him providing bulletin board material to the other clubs. Hypothetically, he could probably get away with it because nobody knew how to stop him when he was on his game.

The bad part of the interview wasn't so much his negative comments about fans and team but that his observations rationalized his depature from CBJ in a way that undermined the "mental health issue" explanation for which he has received incredible love and support. There is a world of difference between saying he took a pause because he struggled with depression and that he asked for a trade because his team wasn't putting in the same effort as he was.
