Anybody got any idea why KH seems so reluctant to talk about Pascal Vincent's involvement in this?

Hughes gave it to the Blue Jackets prison style. Very excited to see what he does with our group

I see people making mentions of Eric Engels having some damage control on something he said earlier about Laine? What is it about?

He said on Marinaro's podcast that the Habs' interest in Laine was low, if not non-existent, and alluded to his sources within the organization. Said that anybody expecting Laine to be with the Habs next season shouldn't get their hopes up. He almost laughed when Tony asked him about it and threw as much cold water on it as possible.

He said he would not go into details but that they did their homework. He said they talked to people that were around him in Columbus and Winnipeg.

BTW he also said, Price is not going on LTIR before season start. They will field a cap compliant roster without doing so in the offseason, so we will be able to use his full bonus during the season.

Cap space is both cheaper than fans think (Cody Ceci) and more daunting/uninviting than fans think (Laine).

On the balance, Hughes and Waddell both won the trade. Laine was dumped with zero retention — a big win for CBJ’s bottom line — and he slightly overpaid for Jordan Harris in the process. It was a nearly cost neutral cap dump for CBJ. For MTL it’s obvious, just as long as Harris doesn’t turn into Brian Leetch we’re okay with the risk.

Lost in all of this is how Pascal Vincent is now the Rocket's head coach. He's been in the Jackets locker room since 2021 before being let go this past summer.

If there was something to remotely be worried about before acquiring him, or if the issues were that serious, he'd have told the management about it.

True.

But, Laine could also fit with the team and return to form, if it happens we win the trade 10 times out of 10. That's the gamble.

Otherwise, in 2 years it's over, and we got a 2nd for Harris.

It's weird no one else in the league wanted to make a better offer. With the cap recently going up, a lot of teams have cap space.

My guess is that Columbus wanted to shed salary more than anything and every team that made an offer wanted Columbus to either take salary back through players or they wanted Columbus to retain salary. Montreal only had them take $1M back with Harris and didn't ask for any retention. Jackets got an Adam Fantilli and David Jiracek bonus they are likely paying by the end of the season and they needed every dollar free.

When it was reported that Laine wanted out, it always made sense for the habs to get him.

Not many teams have the assets and cap space to acquire him. And the habs had a clear need.

This.

So glad it actually happened. We could have not only 2, but 3 really good lines next year, plus a good 4th line.

There are many ways to slice it. Here is one:

Caufield - Suzuki - Salf
Laine - Dach - Dvo/Andy/Gally (yes Dvo can be the digger on this line)
Roy - Newhook - Armia (were sick together last year)
Gallagher - Evans - Anderson (can complain about the price tag, but that's a damn good 4th line)
