Jeff Carter got Jack Johnson and the 27th overall pick. I think that's a good trade to compare Sharp too. Don't think the Hawks get an established NHL player like Johnson, but a late 1st and a good prospect/young player should be the goal.

Wasn't Carter in his 20s when he was traded?

He was a franchise center with a 46 goal season to his resume. He was way more valuable.

Carter played on the wing. When he was traded he had 21 playoff points for his career in 47 games. Sharp almost had that this year in 23 playing on the third line. 3 of the last 5 years Sharp was over a .9 ppg player something Carter had done once in his career and didn't approach in the 2.5 seasons leading up to that trade. When Columbus dumped him he was putting up .64 PPG almost identical to what an injured Patrick Sharp put up this year (.63)

Also, I know there are reasons why Carter will get more than Sharp in trade which is why I said the Hawks aren't going to get back a guy like Johnson in a deal

So what do you think Sharp gets then?

Wash 1st, Madison Bowey and Wilson?
FLA 1st (11) + Trocheck?
MTL 1st+ Jacob De La Rose+ Gallagher

Like... this is betting a little ridiculous. Those are the real life deals that Stan is supposedly asking for at a 1st+a prospect+top 6F valuation

Don't think the Hawks will be getting a roster player. Also don't think Sharp would bring back a pick as high as 11.

If you want to sell me on huge value for Sharp its a better idea to frame your argument on Martin St Louis for Ryan Callahan +2015 1st+2016 2nd than Jeff Carter or Brouwer or whatever.

Sharp

Assuming Sharp approves FLA, how about this:

Sharp and McNeill to FLA for #11

FLA benefits: Hurting for forwards; Sharp can mentor and bring winning pedigree. McNeill provides big body forward with untapped potential.

HAWKS then turn around and send 11 and Bickell to Winnipeg for their 2 1st round picks

Funny because they put up nearly identical PPG numbers in the season prior to their trade (.64 to .63)

Not sure if that's fair. Carter was traded midseason and put up 0.64 PPG with the Blue Jackets, who went on to be literally the worst team in the league that season.

Sharp put up 0.63ppg with the Stanley Cup Champions. The top 2 forwards he played with at even strength were Brad Richards and Patrick Kane. Followed closely by Andrew Shaw and Marian Hossa. That's pretty good company.

Sharp was also coming back from a major injury. Lets look at their seasons prior to getting traded. Sharp put up 78 points in 82 games, Carter put up 66 in 80.

Well a first, a top-six forward and a prospect is a stretch tbh

I bet we get a late 1st maybe and a decent prospect

While Sharp has no where close to the trade value of Carter, often players on lesser teams can better scoring icetime than players on elite teams.

Chicago spreads their PP and premium ice time around. Players need to be defensively responsible.

Players like Kessel on Toronto get unlimited time to float around and worry only about offense.

Sharp is an excellent 3-zone player, great on the PP and a superb penalty killer. He was a valuable forward to the Olympic team just a few years ago. Whatever team he goes to will get a couple of excellent years from him. He might just be the missing link to helping a bubble team make the play-offs, or make that near contender an actual contender.

Who else is available that you can honestly say those types of things about?

No one.

His trade value is severly underrated in a market starved for a complate player.

Tallon would (and should) get strung up by the neck for trading the 11th overall in a deep draft when the team is still somewhat building for the future.

The noose is already around the neck. This is probably his last year if the Panthers don't show significant improvement. Trading 11 might not be the best move for the Panthers, but it might be the best move for Tallon.

Sharp's decline started around the time he had his baby. He hasn't been the same player since, maybe injuries played a factor. That's when I really started to notice his decline. Not willing to battle on the boards as much. Not creating plays as much and stupid penalties.

He's still good and his resume is impressive.

If Hawks got a 1st and a decent prospect I would be jumping for joy. Roster player that is any good on this Hawks team is a stretch.

First baby, or second? Just want to be clear
