Rangers need to be smart and max their window, not go all in which shortens the window, and has increased risk from putting too many eggs in one basket.
The only thing that matters is winning the cup. Having a long contending window doesn't mean much when you come away empty handed.

Hes gona go to Buffalo in the offseason. Then Buffalo will start making the playoffs every year while Vegas falls apart.

I don't think Bernmeister necessarily disagrees with that @MrJumbles234. He's just pointing out that given the circumstances of the Rangers, now may not be the best time to make that trade. It goes back to what I said earlier as well. None of us disagree with you or anyone else about the archetype of making a splurge for that "final piece" that may push your team over the top, but historically, if such a player is only going to offer one year of play because they're a rental, the acquiring team should make those types of trades at the peak of the their window or perhaps when they're even on the decline and an inevitable rebuild is looming in the distance. Making this type of "assets for a rental veteran" deal is premature for the Rangers.

This much is obvious. But a prolonged window gives you more opportunities at a cup, simple as that. Who wouldn't want to maximize their cup window? Giving away current and future pieces to hard-chase a cup isn't always the answer.

I guess I'd rather go all in on my team instead of playing it conservative and hoping all your draft picks / prospects pan out. I've just seen it happen to many times with teams that played it safe and never won anything. I'd rather make a few serious runs at it compared to a decade of rolling the same group over and over again hoping they win it. Contending teams shouldn't be scared of trading their picks / prospects if they can seriously upgrade their roster.

Tampa Bay went all in to improve their depth. They weren't scared to move picks / prospects to fix the holes on the team.
Posters on here are enthralled with young players and draft picks and seem to think that the next superstar is just around the corner for team X and therefore never want to gamble by taking a good established player that can help a team win now, it’s always about the future !
