1. underline = you're wrong b'c eye test shows this is the ongoing ask from NYR by other fans bases.
2. bold = you're wrong to characterize it as a disparaging negative. But you continue to do you. I will continue to tell it like it is, and rebut as necessary.
Look at your offers for everyone else’s blue chips. You offer folks with what your ok giving up. Not anything near blue chip value

He's 34 next season. How much longer can he play at a high level? How does NY afford his 10.5 cap hit? This isnt the Rangers of the 90s.

He's having his 3rd best season of his career production wise. Seeing that Pavelski is turning 38 and still playing at a high level. I think Kane has got 4-5 good years left.

You know the Blackhawks can retain 50% of his contract right? You can also have a 3rd team retain money.

I'm not even saying the Rangers should trade for him. I just think the previous offers by Rangers fans weren't good enough.

Its more of a need mismatch. Last thing the Rangers need is another winger.

These are the questions you should be initially posting, rather than calling him over the hill. I agree, we can't afford him. But Kane is a great player and can probably finish his career the same time a year before or the same time Panarin's contract ends. I just don't see him signing a 2 year contract and we can't afford it.

Age, cap hit and potential cost aside (if that's possible), I think the biggest problem I would have is I'm not sure Kane addresses what is going to be the Rangers' biggest need to address this offseason: 2C.

Yea?

Young struggling guy that has vastly underperformed going into his 3rd season. Sounds like a reclamation project to me.

Guys a reclamation project cause he didn’t come into the NHL as an 18 year old and lite the league on fire?

This isn’t like Edmonton with Yakupov where a team rolled the dice after he’d completely failed to establish himself heading into his 5 season.

Laf shouldn’t have been in the NHL as an 18 year old without first having his skating addressed. That’s on the team more so than the player.

2.6 million at 75% retained isn’t exactly high priced…..
Cool cool. Who is retaining on a 5.25M Patrick Kane to send him to you for cheap? If the Wings could get 50% Patrick Kane for the rest of his deal, I certainly wouldn't be passing him along to the Rangers for pennies on the dollar.

But yeah, P. Kane to NYR does not make a lick of sense. They have enough of their own guys to take care of. If Kane were to go to NYR, it would have to be a ludicrously sweetheart deal because he loved playing with Panarin that much and he's willing to sing for pennies on the dollar for his value.

Rangers need to be spending their assets for other things if they are trading to improve. And also, Rangers need to just lock in their outstanding core and supplement with good, cost effective players now. Get Shesterkin, Fox, Panarin, Zibanejad, and the couple others locked and loaded. They've got an outstandingly solid base right now, so don't do anything dumb.

Arizona probably does for a 3rd and a prospect

There is a world of difference between lighting the league on fire and having the worst performance of a 1st overall in 20+ years. If Laf showed big improvement this year nobody would be talking about trading him. He didn't though. That's why there is a huge concern. The guy is going to be entering his 3rd season and has played 130+ games at this point.

If a guy has been a major disappointment & needs his skating fixed that's pretty much a reclamation project to another team. He's a guy another team is hoping to turn around.

Eye test refutes.
No one snaps fingers and skating improves signif overnight. It is a process. His skating IS improving, and with it results.
Next season we START to see him BEGIN to show how close to massive hype his potential really is.

Should not trade LaF unless/until his potential is realized high enuf, and bids for his production = profitable overpayment.

Overnight...you mean over 2 years?

Last summer you said the same thing. That this is going to be the year he shows massive improvement and shows what all the hype was about. He hasn't. Now it's changed to next season.

I personally just don't see it happening. He's not gonna get a spot on the PP1. The team has a logjam of left wingers. Your only hope is that Gallant gives him a bigger role in the top 6 on his offhand, but others have outplayed him in that spot.

If Rangers have an opportunity to significantly upgrade their roster and they ask for Laf as part of the package, Drury should seriously think about it.

Get ya wanna swap a quality but aging vet for youth with huge potential.
Not gonna happen.
Also last yr too early, and we did not fully get what was happening.
Now we understand bottom line is need to upgrade skating.

Disagree on eye test.
Skating IS improved, needs further improvement.... then we'll see.

but do you honestly think the Rangers next year would be a Patrick Kane away from winning the cup? They're still very young in their window potential. They're only like a year removed from the "rebuild" phase.

I get the archetype of trading assets for an excellent veteran. That type of trade has its purpose but I don't see the Rangers being a team that's at that maturity yet. I don't think these two teams line up well respective to their trajectories. It's simply not a good investment for the Rangers to make while being this young and inexperienced.

Hawks should still shop Kane if they want to but finding a partner that makes more temporal sense with them would be best for everyone.

Not to even mention, Kane wouldn't even maximize their upgrade potential. He's a winger. If the Rangers wanted to splurge assets, it wouldn't be on a winger. It would be towards their biggest need - 2C. Really, this is a terrible pairing for a trade.

Playoffs haven't started yet so idk. If the Rangers get completely outplayed by another team it would be smart to try and upgrade. Pat Kane might not be the most logical target, but I'm talking about adding any top player to the team. Not just specifically Pat Kane.

No one really knows how long a contending window is gonna be open. Two of the teams in the conference finals aren't even gonna make the playoffs. There's so much that can happen. I thought the Sabres were early in their contending window in 2005 and it closed in 2 years. Instead of going all out we played it conservative and it was over.

You have Shesterkin playing out of his mind. Panarin & Zibs are still in their prime. I feel like now is the best time for the Rangers to make a serious run. Tampa Bay made a real smart decision to go all out these last 3 years.

Rangers need to be smart and max their window, not go all in which shortens the window, and has increased risk from putting too many eggs in one basket.
