Montgomery on Bergeron playing in Montreal: no reservations with what we did. Called it "a well-thought-out plan."
"Life happens. Tweaked something in that last game," and even with hindsight, they'd go the same route again.

I don't get it.

This guy gave his heart and soul for this team for 20 YEARS while being as perfect as a hockey player and a human being can be. And now people are shitting on him for playing a hockey game? Almost treating him like a murderer or the devil. All that because we lost ONE playoff game?

Dang people are dumb.

Take off the 37 jerseys. Take off the Bruins pajamas. Players the caliber of Bergeron just don’t miss playoff games. Larry Bird, Tom Brady, David Ortiz don’t miss big games because of injury. This is going to have a negative effect on Bergerons legacy. No hall of fame and no 37 in the rafters.
Haha.

Why did he play the game before Montreal, though? Because he needed to "ramp up?"

That's....clearly bullshit! They wanted to ensure they got the points record, but they obviously can't say that.

Since my best posts couldn't survive in this thread, I just want to highlight what OBVIOUS bullshit this is. It makes no sense if you think about it for even one second.

They let a stupid regular season record get in the way of doing the right thing.

I love this team, but these empty suits that make these comments are just insulting everyone's intelligence.

to say if you knew this would happen and would still do it is laughable.

Also what happened to doing it for his father?

I’m gonna lose a lot of respect for Bergeron if he doesn’t come back soon. Completely foolish to play that game in Montreal.
Tells alot on what you respect or not.

37 Playing in MTL, his home province, for the reason that have been invoked here is what most would have done in the same situation. His father has cancer, probably can not travel and 37 might be as his last season game. Most of pro sport athlete had their parents and best supporter as their father and mother. I personnallyI would have played that game 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year...

BTW, That guy gave more on money and commitment than most NHL players to his organization. So f... to those too selfish to understand what he did and why Bruins allowed it.

Getting injured in the game of hockey is.... not that rare my friend. Bad luck and shit happens....

BTW, If the guy did not get injured... and the Bruins were up 3-0, him playing in MTL would be irrelevant.... and most would be evaluating it as classy acte.

In fact, Ty Anderson deleted a response about it.

The way they are handling his absence is only making it worse. FFS just be honest
It's amazing to me that every single **** up any of these guys do is always covered with a "behind the scenes nobody knows" angle to try to make them not look bad. From trades, to firings, to drafts, to signings to things like this. It's amazing this group has never made a mistake.

then to give a "**** you" we would have done it anyways line is rich.

It's the secrecy that makes everything about the playoffs just awful.

What the f*** happened between Game 82 and Game 1?

Everybody needs to step back. All the Dr. Recchi's in here should realize they aren't in the room, and they are dealing with a league which allowed the Red Wings to report Steve Yzerman's broken leg as an "upper body injury". None of us knows when he was injured. None of us knows how he was injured. None of us knows what the injury actually is. The speculation in here is just below the Laffs fans crying about the refs and a court case over 15 years ago, and it is quite frankly, pitiful.

Now I know why I don't come near this place after a 1st round game that ends in a loss. Buncha f***ing drama queens.
Spot on

I love this place, love reading opinions and am as diehard and competitive as the next person...but I tend to stray away from this place a bit more during playoffs because of some of the takes I see when we're losing and how high and low people seem to get after every game.

Bitching about player's performances when they're playing through injuries is my favourite, as if half of us don't get injured just from sleeping weird and can barely go to a desk job effectively let alone play a sport.

What they’re saying is about the nature of the decision (not able to predict injury) - and the reason they’re saying that is because despite the bad luck it was the right decision

Human beings matter more than games

“Ayyyyy thanks again for taking league minimum so we can do what we’ve done. Super selfless of you. Oh you wanna play in front of your dying dad in your home province potentially one last time? Go shit in your hat you selfish prick.”

They are saying he played to “ramp it up” for the playoffs. That’s ridiculous

They made a dumb decision and like always there seems to be some “backstory” that absolves the Bruins of making a dumb decision.

That’s not what they are saying about why he played.

"We wanted -- I wanted and Bergy wanted -- the last two games to ramp up to get in a rhythm for the playoffs," Montgomery said. "Life happens, you know? Unfortunately tweaked something in that last game. Even with the hindsight we would still do it exactly the same way.

"That's how it's easy to move forward when you have no regret with what you did because it was a well-thought-out plan."

I tend to agree with Monty, or find the explanation reasonable and likely. He’d sat out a bunch of games and wanted to play a few before the playoffs to tune up. He got injured. So be it.

I’d say more importantly, they’ve been resting guys for weeks now and still managed to beat desperate teams down the stretch. There is zero reason this roster can’t beat Florida in 5-6 games, tops. No excuses. Florida backed into the playoffs and is no match for this roster. If the Bruins find a way to lose this series it’s not on Monty and Bergy deciding to play him in Montréal.
