Bergeron's father is battling cancer.

A nuclear explosion was the only way you'd keep Bergeron from participating in that game in Montreal to play in front of his father. Heck, we heard about how he wanted to go back out there after he went in the room. I'm not sure how they prevented that from happening.
I didn’t know his Father is battling cancer. Very sorry to hear this news.

I think it’s either his back, a hernia, pulled groin, Covid, norovirus, concussion, pinched nerve, pulled muscle in lower body, pulled muscle in upper body, a combination of the aforementioned…

He will play tomorrow….book it.
If not he will play game 7 for sure…book it.

If not, I guarantee he will play game one of second round.

He won’t play next year because he played the last game of the season In Montreal.

Actually, he will be back next year for sure because he doesn’t want his last game to be the one he only played part of in Montreal. But maybe he won’t if he comes back and wins the cup.

Book it!!!
All bases covered!

Finally a voice of reason - we all discount what matters to the player (and by extension his teammates) and dismiss it as “stupid” because a negative consequence occurred

Ungh, sucks. That would be the one thing more important than the B's right now, is family health. I wish for Patrice that it didn't happen right now...hopefully everything goes in the right direction for the family.

Can't imagine the optics of sitting the captain, who signed for 1 mil and has done everything for this organization, had they told him no he can't play.

Unfortunately the worst possible outcome happened but we gotta move on and accept it.

Yep- Shit happens! That’s life!

It sucks but we’ve had some good stuff happen to us this year too. It’s all a matter of perspective. If this team can’t beat the Panthers without him they aren’t cup worthy anyway. It will just be a little more difficult, that’s all.

If the Bruins get bounced by the Kitties, and it’s down to their captain being out because he was injured in Montreal, I’ll still back Bergy here and would every time for every player that puts a game second to life.
I agree with this. Seems tho a lot of fans already have their excuse lined up if they somehow choke this series away though. Which I guess is fine.

Why can’t it be both though? I feel like we can all understand why bergeron did it and agree we all would have done the same, while also recognizing that it was selfish and detrimental to the team.

im with this, support his decision and wish he was able to finish the game.

IF (enormous IF) the bruins lose to FLA it wont be because of Bergeron's absence, it will be self inflicted.

There is a reason Bergeron and Krejci took low value bonus deals which allowed don and gold to build this team, and its because they support this kind of stuff unequivocally. so if you want to play around with this crap year after year and ignore the human element he signs 1x7.5 not 1x2.5(2.5).

Fight krejci on going home, forcing his hand and not giving him time to decide whats best for his family? he doenst come back this year period.

you cant have it both ways. support the human or treat them like product.

thats where Im at.

For the first time in many years I cant bitch about JJ not spending. He actually spent over the Cap ( thanks Evan Gold). Sweeney assembled and procured a team for the ages.

If they falter its because of the guys in uniform.

Yeah I don't know about selfish, I get it, but I totally get what he had to do, and there was a risk that something detrimental could happen to him which would have major consequences on the team. Rolled the dice and he got hurt. There was an extremely rare chance that would happen I guess, and we all would have done the same thing. to be "mad" at him is silly and that GDT thread was grotesque with posters saying he should retire and hope that was his last game. disgusting.

im with this, support his decision and wish he was able to finish the game.

I mean how can you say this? Yeah if they lose 3 more games like game 2 I get it, but all it takes is one lost draw to lose in OT., or some shoddy defense to lose a game 2-1.

People are mad at Bergeron for playing Game 82 but they already had 3 forwards out that game (Krejci, Nosek, and Foligno).

Let's say the Bruins called up Steen, Wagner, Koppanen, Letteri, and McLaughlin, and instead of Bergeron sitting it was Coyle, Pasta, Marchand, Hall and Debrusk, and Bergeron still hurt himself, are people still angry at his decision to play? Someone had to dress for the game. Fans are acting like Monty should of just vetoed Bergeron's decision to play based essentially on his age. Would the same outcry be happening if Bergeron was 27 instead of 37?

And even if you park the personal side of the equation (which I completely respect BTW). If he didn't play that Thursday he would of had 5 days in between games and maybe as an athlete he felt he would simply be sharper for Game 1 on Monday having playing the Thursday in between.

Everybody needs to step back. All the Dr. Recchi's in here should realize they aren't in the room, and they are dealing with a league which allowed the Red Wings to report Steve Yzerman's broken leg as an "upper body injury". None of us knows when he was injured. None of us knows how he was injured. None of us knows what the injury actually is. The speculation in here is just below the Laffs fans crying about the refs and a court case over 15 years ago, and it is quite frankly, pitiful.

Now I know why I don't come near this place after a 1st round game that ends in a loss. Buncha f***ing drama queens.
