Great career, great player. One of the best in every inch of 200 ft of ice. He really showed his greatness to me when he played for Team Canada and was one of the team’s best players.

Points tell only a small part of his career. To me he played like a 100 point player that sacrificed 20 points a year to be one of the best 2 way players in the game. Which tells you all you need to know about Patrice Bergeron.

Congratulations on a great hall of fame career.

Mad respect for this guy. Seemed like a great one on and off the ice.

Happy he won't be terrorizing the Leafs any longer.

Defining moment has to be the tying, then winning goals vs Toronto in 2013.

He played with a punctured lung against Chicago.

This is apocrypha. He played with broken ribs and torn rib cartilage in game 6, and suffered a dislocated shoulder that game.

The punctured lung occurred after the game during treatment for his injuries. Thats why he didnt list it among his injuries in the post-game scrum, it hadnt happened yet.

No doctor that wanted to keep his license would allow a person to do anything, let alone play professional sports, with a punctured lung.

His career took off the day Joe Thornton was traded from Boston. Them choosing Bergeron over Thornton for their future was probably one of the best moves the Bruins franchise has ever made. Franchise altering trade that was. I couldn't even imagine how different Bergeron's career would be had Thornton not been traded from Boston. Don't think Patrice has near as much success playing behind Joe in Boston.

You really think playing 2C behind Thornton instead of Krejci would have been that impactful?

This is a league that had doctors allowing clearly concussed players back on the ice. I wouldn't be too sure.

Literally one of the all time greatest to ever lace them up. If you made a 20 man roster of the greatest NHLers ever I wouldn't think you're crazy to put Bergy somewhere in the lineup. May he have as much success in his retired life as he did during his playing days

Incredible career and just a great person as well from everything I've seen read. Bruins you were a lucky bunch to have such a classy player and person for his whole career !!

On the ice individually? No. But going from Thornton as C to a leadership group around Bergeron and then Bergeron and Chara was a massive change in the team culture and commitment to "playing the right way" and winning.

A thousand miles from nowhere
While most in his draft class were playing reduced roles in the bottom six, Bergeron retired as a #1C and still put up numbers like this. He will be missed.
