One of those players whose retirement marks the end of an era. League will likely never have another like him. In 20 years on HF we will be arguing about if Bergeron would win the Selke in the league then with all the changes it will have like we do with past greats in our current era.

Sad day for hockey.

This is a moment I wish had never arrived, but it was inevitable.

I have had the pleasure to be witness to the entire career of one of the greatest ever Bruins players, and a true gentleman.
And what a privilege that his entire NHL career was with the Bruins: I couldn't have asked for better (the cherry on the icing was that he also played a handful of games for my Swiss team, HC Lugano, in the 12-13 lockout-shortened season).
This is a great loss not only for the Bruins, but also for the league, on so many levels.

I hope that he will enjoy his well-deserved retirement. He'll always be in Bruins' fans' hearts.

What a career. I am gonna miss watching him play.
His is the only jersey I own that is not of a German player or team.

I am really glad I got to watch so much of his career and I hope his transition to life off the ice is smooth one and he gets to enjoy it in good health for a long, long time.

Was really hoping he would run it back one more time, not ready to say goodbye. One hell of a player who had one hell of a career. Best two way center in hockey history IMO, had such a great understanding of the position.

That rare breed that played the game the way it was meant to be played year in year out.
Congratulations Patrice, all the best in your retirement.

Hell baby
He’s everything you could want in a player. Got the most out of his abilities, was a model citizen in the community, and gave it all for the city of boston and his teammates. Guy played through a punctured lung ffs. A legend, an icon in the city of Boston, and the modern day face of the franchise.

Unbelievable player and career. Will be weird not having him in the league next year. Also a major blow to the bruins. Has Krejci announced anything or was he waiting on Patrice?

When you have a full respect/admiration for a guy playing for a team you otherwise hate, you know he's the real deal.
Definitely goes down as one of the all-time great two-way forwards.

He's been averaging at least one gruesome injury a year that he somehow plays through for like a decade now, with the most recent one being a herniated disc in his back. I would've lovved to see him back to be the captain for the 100th season, but the dude needs to let his body chill for a bit, and he's earned that right.
Ah make sense. That's too bad.

Somewhere on earth in a hospital
As a habs fan , he was on the same level as Daniel Alfredsson on the annoying chart.
Always on the scoreboard and everyone's face defensively.

As his nhl career , probably the most respected player this league had in the last decades and an amazing player at that. Rival aside , he deserves his 37 to be retired and entering in the HHOF right away on the first ballot.

Incredible career , wish him the best. He could perhaps stay in the Bruins entourage in a future post in something !!!
