Not going to lie I could see them waiving the 3 years or whatever the wait time is for him.

Fantastic career.

I assumed his decision to retire was just over 50 and took thos time to see where his heart lied and got to 100% retirement.

I wonder if he'll stay away, join the Bruins in some capacity, or take a year, or two off and join them then.

even has a huge Bruins hater its impossible to hate Bergeron great career probably the best defensive center ive seen in my lifetime

guaranteed hall of famer sad news for the hockey world

and as a Hab hater but a tremendous person of respect for Jean Beliveau, Bergy is loved here for all the same reasons. On and off the ice.

First ballot HHOFer.

I am just surprised that he really didn’t come back, thought losing the way the Bruins did last year would guarantee him coming back but I guess the injuries and overall grind must have taken a toll on his body. He could seriously win the Selke next year if he wanted without it being a reputation based win.

he finished the season with herniated disks in his neck. I think he just finally figured it was time.

Well deserved, yet too early.
Not really....very few players last in the league as long as he has. Yes, several players in history have played WAY longer, but those are the very few exceptions. Gretzky retired at the same age, for example.

Still was a very effective player and could have contributed for another 3-4 years. I definitely thought he would be back for at least 1-2 more years. Especially with how this season ended.
Injuries definitely took their toll on him. He put his body through hell for the past 20 years.

What a warrior! Nothing but respect and well wishes in your retirement!

Even though I'm a Panthers' fan, I'm sorry to see him go. Such a class act and a hell of a player also. I wish him well in his future endeavors.
