He was a diehard Nordiques fan, and he hates the Habs with the heat of a thousand suns. He was once asked by an interviewer if he aspired to join the Habs "like all Quebecoise players". Patrice gave him a dirty look and appeared to swallow the vomit that rose up in his throat. The only time I ever saw him act even semi-unprofessional in an interview.
Big hatred between Nords and Habs. But Bergeron had the great will to win bred in the Habs. Must be French Canadien. Bruins don't have the will to win. They more a Derek Sanderson, Joe Thornton, Rick Middleton type atmosphere to them.

As I said, Bergeron hates the Habs. There's probably 31 other teams he'd pick before signing with them. Contrary to what Habs fans think, not every French Canadian dreams of playing for the toilet seats. Plus, he's half Irish (his real last name is Cleary), which fits Boston to a T.

Where does he rank among all time Bruins.
They’ve had some good ones,
Orr, Bucyk, Bourque, Shore, Esposito or anyone I left out.

I don't know... seems like Bergeron gave up and just quit if you ask me... he's the reigning Selke trophy winnier, the league shouldn't let somebody retire who just won a major trophy like that. Players should play until the wheels start falling off. Now we'll never know if bergeron could've won a 7th or even 8th Selke trophy...
Exactly!!!

Screw CTE! Screw being in debilitating pain later in life! Screw having any sort of happy life after hockey!

Still remember wondering if he'd actually have a career after the completely ridiculous hit he took in his very early years and how bad that shit looked, and now he'll retire as arguably the best defensive forward of all-time. f***ing good for you, dude, could never find a reason to hate the guy even if I wanted to, just a solid do-everything winner who managed to obviously be an amazing guy without ever having to advertise what a good guy he was, he just did it.

I'm happy to not have to deal with his defense anymore but damn, the NHL is missing a true gem now.

It's not often these days that a player retires with the same team that drafted them after 20 years of pro hockey. To me, that's extremely rare in todays game and speaks volumes to the type of player and person Bergeron was. Enjoy your retirement Bergy!

Patrick Roy was a Québec Nords fan if i am not mistaken. Any players for a very rare exception re simply happy to even be drafted. That said... Bergeron was a perfect Boston Bruins fit!

Worse no doubt.
But if by some miracle Krejci stays as 1C, then that takes the pressure off Zacha to slot at 2C, Coyle stays 3C where he belongs, and internal competition for 4C should keep them competitive.
A big IF though.

I thought Krejci looked worse than Bergy at the end (I love them both, but they both looked terrible at the end)

It's time to move on, Bergy has the class/hockey IQ to know it was time to move on. I have a feeling that if he had tried to force it for one more year he would have been a shell of his former self -- and he knew it -- and I respect him for that.

He was the only reason I had a soft spot for the Bruins. Now he has a spot in the HHOF coming up in the first ballot.

What I admired is how quick he adapted to the NHL having barely played two seasons of junior.
