I thought Krejci looked worse than Bergy at the end (I love them both, but they both looked terrible at the end)

It's time to move on, Bergy has the class/hockey IQ to know it was time to move on. I have a feeling that if he had tried to force it for one more year he would have been a shell of his former self -- and he knew it -- and I respect him for that.
You sure do read in Bergy's mind!

Definitely in contention as one of the best Defensive forwards of all time. Being a Habs fan while my dad was a Bruins Fan I got to watch him play many times and while I loathed other Bruins players like Lucic, Marchan and Chara (respect their skills tho). Patrice always struck me as a class act.

Crazy to think he is only 2 years older than me and is now retiring with Millions while I recently started my career as an Engineer. Props to him he worked hard seemed to never take a night off and deserves it.

Who's going to be their #1C? Krejci?

Bruins offense take a huge hit losing Bergeron, Hall and Bertuzzi in the same year.

Different type of player but comes into the Sakic, Yzerman, Lidstrom, Bourque etc category of almost universally respected player. Even better when he was the classy guy when the Bruins where a rather less likeable team last decade.
Not often a guy hangs them up after leading his team to a record breaking regular season. Always good if you can retire before the sport starts trying to retire you...
Patrice Bergeron retires

Jeff Carter doesn't.

Go figure

He was a diehard Nordiques fan, and he hates the Habs with the heat of a thousand suns. He was once asked by an interviewer if he aspired to join the Habs "like all Quebecoise players". Patrice gave him a dirty look and appeared to swallow the vomit that rose up in his throat. The only time I ever saw him act even semi-unprofessional in an interview.
I never knew this.
Nordiques fan eh. Ha!
Thanks

will be interesting to see how brad Marchant plays in his absence. people do not remember this, but patrice was thought of as a good 2nd line, maybe a 1B (with krejci) type center man before he became inseparably tethered to The Rat Of Haligonia. the eyes of the phwa are on you, bradley. if he continues to play at a tourit pace as he has the last many years, there may be some question Mark's about how good patrice really was

but as of now, he would be on my ballad

“I've never been a Canadiens fan. When I was growing up, I was in Quebec City and was a Nordiques fan. It was always a rivalry for me growing up against them because of the Nordiques. Now that I'm in Boston that notion carried on. It's the same thing here. While I respect them and their history, I've never been a fan of them.”

Trent Frederic with some big Champ Kind energy there.

"When the wound is fresh, you can't make rational decisions. You have to really make sure you think about things or at least give yourself time to let it come to you, and I felt like that's what I did," Bergeron said. "There was a part of me that, yes, wanted to come back early on. ... Once I took a step back and I realized everything that I was fortunate to experience and live as a hockey player and as a person, I felt very lucky and grateful."

How can you not love this guy even if you're not a Bruins fan?

Exactly my first thought the Bruins have a great back end and some solid wingers and depth wingers but man their center group is yikes.

but then again Zacha did score 48 ES points and Coyle 40 so they could rely on the wingers and depth scoring but who is going to be the #1 center on the PP?

Please post a link to your ballad once it's composed so we can all enjoy it.

I was always impressed with Bergeron for one reason. While his teammates were running around throwing elbows, slew foots, knees, and intentionally injuring the opposition, Bergeron always remained a clean player and never took part in the goonery. That is incredible to me since he played with some of the most degenerate players in NHL history and none of that rubbed off on him. He was a leader and did his best with the bruins, but sometimes your leadership cannot influence a team full of dentheads.

Embarrassing. This topic calls for better.

Bergeron was a solid class act throughout his career. Can't recall anyone better at winning the puck in the faceoff. A lock-in for HOF at first chance.

This post is total bullshit and idiotic. Almost denthead-like.

A little over the top but yea he definitely steered clear of a lot of the nonsense some of his teammates got up to over the years.
