What percentage of people have reading comprehension issues because it seems it be a massive issue on this board as well.

Many seems to not be able to comprehend the difference between being soft and a soft play style. For example, I wouldnt call phill kessel soft especially with that iron man streak. However without a doubt he has a soft style of play, so theres a significant difference. Hell elias lindholm might be the perfect example, selke runner up, not a soft player, but plays a soft style of play and never fihts and rarely gets in scrums or hits much like bergeron.

I wouldnt call any of those guys soft, but all of them without a doubt have a soft style of play. However many cant seem to differentiate being soft and having a soft play style, despite multiple posts explaining the difference.

But I wouldn't put any of those guys in the soft category like I would crosby, the sedins, marleau, half of those Montreal teams.

Maybe better than Neely, but not better than Bourque.

Bourque was an all-time great.

That's a tough one ---- they are very close in my mind.

If we were forced to rank one higher than the other and were doing it based on a point system of 1-100 ----- I'd probably have one of them at a 95 and the other at a 95.5....not sure who gets the extra .05 though.

Are you comparing Bergeron to Neely here?

So let me get this straight - you doubled down on the soft play style comments by comparing the play styles of....phil Kessel to Bergeron? Jesus man.....you have to know that those two guys' styles are nothing alike...right? I'm absolutely floored by that comparison, have you watched either of these guys play this past decade? Two players who couldn't be further from a similar style.

At this point I think you should back out of this thread, no one else is buying what you are selling.

I can't imagine him wanting to have his career end this way. He'll want to come back so he can go out on a good note plus it would be his 20th NHL season, a milestone few players ever achieve.

So would going out in the first round next year be any better 🤔 I can't see this team dialing it up to 11 and going on a deep playoff run next year

Yes similar in the aspect of not fighting, rarely hitting, avoiding scrums and not standing up for teammates. Bergy, kessel, Elias lindholm and cirelli are all similar in that matter.

Which if you scroll up through the convo, that has been my point the entire time.

Is this a stand up comedy act? It doesn't matter what your point is you have lost all credibility comparing Kessel to Bergy.

The same Kessel that has never thrown more than 20 hits in a season, never plays hard defensive minutes, never plays PK, never fights, never goes to the dirty areas. And you think that is a similar description to Bergerons style? Really?

I never said they had the same responsibilities on the ice.

I said they don’t fight, don’t get into scrums, don’t stand up for teammates and avoid contact for the most part.

I agree with what you said otherwise 100%. Full agreement and no doubt about it. I’m specifically talking about not fighting, avoiding scrums, not standing up for teammates and aspects of their game pertaining to that nature.

No disagreement on the defense or playing PK minutes. I’m with you fully on that and agree.

Idk man, you don't rack up the injuries Bergeron has in his career by avoiding scrums and contact. However you surely do rack up an iron man streak by doing that.

I just think you couldn't be further away on that comparison. Bergy has started aging out of those things you listed as his career went on and injuries and mileage piled up, while Kessel has never once been that player in his career - not at 21 and not at 35.

Patrice Bergeron was voted the player who appeared in a Stanley Cup Final with the most debilitating injuries, even over Yzerman, who played on a frigging broken leg. And here's a clue (because you seem incapable of buying one) HE DIDN'T GET THOSE INJURIES PLAYING A "soft play style"!!

Kessel has an ironman streak due to the fact his game has zero physicality, and he shies away from hits like Superman from Kryptonite. Patrice Bergeron will take a hit to make a pass in the closing seconds of a 5-1 blowout in a January matinee, and be pissed at himself if the pass is off the mark.

If the world looks upside down you can either
1. assume it is upside down and no one else can comprehend it
2. assume you are probably standing on your head and need to turn yourself over

A man goes to hell and the devil greets him. He takes him to a hallway which has three different doors and tell the man he'll have to choose one room to spend the rest of eternity in.

So he takes him to the first door and he opens it and sees everyone standing on their heads on wooden floors. The man thought that would be pretty terrible to spend the rest of eternity on his head on such a hard floor and asked the devil to show him the second door.

Everyone in the second room was standing on their heads on concrete. The man thought that was even worse to spend the rest of eternity on his head on an even harder floor.

Finally the devil takes him to the third door and in that room everyone is up to their knees in dog shit and drinking coffee. The man thought that was pretty bad, but at least they could drink coffee so he told the devil he chose the third room to spend the rest of eternity in. So the man, up to his knees in dog shit, drank coffee for a few minutes. Then the devil came back into the room and said "Coffee break is over. Back on your heads."

Bergy has been in 1 fight in the past decade. That part of his game was phased out early with the concussions this happened well before he started aging. Do I blame him? No, its allowed him to have a long career.

Unfortunately teams take after their leaders though and the Bruins have been a little too soft in the physicality department especially in the playoffs. Frederics been forced to tone it down, Hathaway comes here and isnt half the pest he was in washington, Marchands been forced to tone it down.

Meanwhile You have teams like florida who were very similar to the bruins current physical play style when they had huberdeau leading the team. Regular season studs who get bullied in the playoffs. All of a sudden Tkachuk comes in and its a complete culture change with many of the same players. The players rally around Tkachuk getting into scrums, bringing the physicality, mucking it up and playing a heavy game. Then look what happens to them, furthest theyve ever made it in what was considered a retool year for them.

Bergy great human being, excellent player, someone I would want my daughter to marry. Not the type of captain you want for a playoff push though.

I think he comes back as it’s the 100th anniversary season and all that. Then he’s done. Marchand then becomes captain for two years and retires as well. Both are pretty beaten up all things considered so they have little time left I think.

Please inform me the injures he had where he was the aggressor.

Theres plenty of injuries to go through just in the last 5 years alone. this year herniated disk, last year elbow injury resulting in surgery, 2 of the 3 previous years groin injuries.

before that the cup run with broken ribs and punctured lung, then the extensive history of conussions.

I think the only play where he could even slightly be deemed the aggressor was the 2007 concussion where him and seidenberg collided when Seidenberg was on the hurricane. Even then it looks like bergy was going for a poke check but we will give him the benefit of the doubt that he was initiating contact there.

hes just injury prone. fortunately, as ive gave him credit for before, he does play through injuries is he hasnt missed much time. Unfortunately its lead to him not being himself in the playoffs.

its not like he plays a rugged style of play that lead to injuries, its more been thats hes a punching bag.

Last year, I thought he would retire, and there were constant rumors about he, and Krejci, returning. This year I think he retires. He did not play that game in Montreal for nothing. Other possibility is that he plays about 40 games after his back heals.
