During the off-season, roster players + main draft picks need to be even in trades, because it's important that everyone finishes the off-season with the correct number of roster players.

During the season, uneven deals are dealt with by Yahoo anyway (it makes you drop a player if you're over, and you can pick up a player if you're short). However, Yahoo forces you to exchange equal main draft picks during the season, a restriction that isn't in place during our off-season.
