This has so much potential. Holy f*** the Panthers' shake up was the best thing to happen for us. Maybe they succeed, but the probability that they don't is higher than 2 months ago.

In terms of slipping down to top 10 pick or 11-15 range, The probability they had 2 months ago was like 10% and now it's 12% or 15%?

Once the Habs are in command of the 1st and 2nd overall picks, they will be in a position to add a franchise center and dman.

He did a terrific job as D coach w Avs, which is why he was hailed from all corners when named Habs AHL coach back in 2012.

Some people are better assistants than the big boss just sayin…

Did he? He was there 3 years. They missed the playoffs twice and made it once and lost in the first round. He was working with what was on paper a pathetic defense and the result were bad as expected. I mean not his fault he was working with nothing but there's a difference between not looking terrible with nothing and actually working with a good defense and putting league leading performance. You could argue he did a good job in his last year as the result were better with a still terrible defense but it's a small sample size of 1 year.

2009-2010 avs finished 17th in GA and 25th in SA/G
2010-2011 avs finished dead last in GA and 23rd in SA/G
2011-2012 avs finsihed 16th in GA and 11th in SA/G

Again not his fault he was working with a AHL worthy defense. But the whole Lefebvre was awesome with the avs always mesmerized me as the avs sucked hard back in those years and there was not much to be seen there as a team.

Panthers regress big time this year imo. It’s only a question of how far do they fall. Huberdeau makes everyone around him better. They are going to struggle. I think teams took them lightly too, won’t happen agsin

I think it's 16-20 if Florida stands pat. I expect they will try to fix their defence though. They have a lot on Ekblad, Bobrovsky can be a bit up/down too....

So let me get this right . A team with a lineup of Barkov, Tkachuk, Lundell, Reinhart Bennett, Ekblad, Duclair with a goaltending duo of Knight and Brobovsky, and some decent near NHL ready prospects is somehow supposed to be a bubble team ?

Lol.....

Lol.....
Duclair is injured for months and after Ekblad that def is nothing special

one injury to Barkov or Ekblad and that team can easily start falling and both those guys get injured often

I think they’ll drop off from last year, maybe 6-7 wins which will still put them at 108-110 points. Good enough for 2nd or 3rd in the Atlantic and probably top 8-10 overall. I do think they’ll lose in either rounds 1 or 2 though putting the pick in the lower 20’s.

Normally I don’t pray for anyone’s downfall, but I was cheering for them to win the Cup this past season and they blew it by heading to strip clubs so I think they’re fair game now.

Time to call in the poachers.

Lots of things need to go wrong for this fantastic scenario to happen but no laws forbid dreaming am I wrong? I like to throw hypothesis (supported by hindsight level going from slim to none) supporting that scenario.
Let’s just suppose:
- Zito strongly underestimated the impact of Huberdeau making his teammates better and a few of them take a significant stepback (Bennet, Reinhart comes to mind, Duclair is gonna be missing time).
-Lots of players had career years. History says backlash might happen to a few.
- let’s say Tkachuk bennefited a lot from Gaudreau and is a bit overvalued… but his tendency to lit a fire isn’t… and it messes up a bit more the room.
- Paul Maurice as a head coach doesn’t have that much of a recent track record proving he is very good… let’s suppose he is not… and gets exposed!?
- Lundell is not immune to sophomore slump.
- Bobrovsky, Hornqvist and Staal are not trending upward.
-Knight is still young and still can experience growing pains.
- The Atlantic division and East in general ARE stronger than they were. Parity might be better. Many teams outside looking in..
- the big imponderable is an unfortunate injury to Barkov or Ekblad…
-Habs very motivated ends up 3-1 against Fla
- HuGo trade every worthwhile asset with retention to Atlantic teams not named panthers, starting a few weeks before deadline.

Habs finish 30th… Fla miss the playoffs… ends up 10 or 11 in the East (which is a lottery pick). Ends up winning the lottery… Habs draft 1 and 5… Bedard and Allen.

21-32. I'll guess 24th.
I just don't see the huge collapse some are hoping for. Oh well. No matter where that pick ends up still a great trade for Montreal
