Would still be very surprised to see them miss the playoffs but it's pretty cool to have that be a real possibility now. The tricky part is that Boston has so many big injuries to start the year so I don't see Florida dropping out of a top 3 spot, but they're now top-heavy enough that a Vegas style season is possible, especially given Ekblad and Barkov both have some question marks about durability.

The ranges for picks don't really work.

I expect the Panthers to be in a wildcard spot. But the range is too broad.

I fully expect them to be a divisional seed.

The lowest I see is around 15ish and thats more like a worst case scenario.

They've had to out up with questionable goaltending through this run of back to back presidents trophies, so that's now new. They've also done that despite ekblad's injury history, and Tkachuk is still a good regular season player.

Weegar is an interesting peice but I thought he was really volatile as well.

I don't think they will be running for the presidents trophy anymore but I do I feel like their potential slip has been over exaggerated.

Panthers will take a step back but c'mon, it won't be anywhere near a lottery pick.

Ya his 'model' also says Suzuki is one of worst contracts in league so....

TBH my ass would make better "models". Anyway making a model to prodict the next season based on the off season move it kind of ridiculous. A hockey team dynamic is too complicated.

They still have a lot of firepower but a little less than last year and they are more suspect on defense also but they are still a well built hockey team.

Things could only get interesting with some injuries on defense but even then, PO is expected.
A good thing is they liquidated all their assets for a big addition at TDL for a good PO run and inside a very strong division, I expect a 1st round exit too.

A pick around 20

It's has more to do with the fact the division will be stronger imo. Detroit is not going for a cup but they have a strong lineup. I could see them surprising and making the playoffs. Ottawa will be good too. Last year the first 4 positions were a lock all the other teams in the division sucked past that.

If the division was the same as last year Florida would still be 100% sure to make the playoffs. But the margin of error will be much smaller this year. Boston could suck if they do nothing and Marchand regress but both Ottawa and Detroit should be competitive. Buffalo will lack experience and they'll miss again but they wont be as much of an auto-win as last year. I'll be surprised if we don't finish last.

Panthers are all in. They are going to do everything in their power to not only make the playoffs, but advance in the playoffs. If injuries hit, they will make more trades to stay afloat. I'm obviously hoping they choke and it becomes a lottery pick, but I think the odds are very low that it will be a top 20 pick let alone a top 10 pick.

They are over the cap. They will have to move contract(s) to be able to make in season moves. And if someone goes on LTIR they can replace him but if the LTIRed player returns during the season they have to find a way to get rid of someone.

Also, they already traded all of their picks for the next decade so less chance at a trade that matters.

It 1000% has been exaggerated out of sheer wishful thinking/fetish. They'll comfortably be a seeded team.

Basically Detroit is +6 because they sucked so bad it was either stagnation or improvement.

And Canes add Burns, and add Pacioretty for free
They get -1.8 lol
I’d imagine those models really like Trocheck, DeAngelo and Niederreiter. I’d say the latter two have been effectively replaced, but losing Trocheck is huge considering they are banking on KK to become a 2C

At age 24 Tkachuk just signed his most important and lucrative contract. It's unlikely that his motivation will be at its highest. I don't expect him to have a career year.

Guys like Ekblad and Barkov haven't played a full season since 4 seasons ago.

Their cap situation is dire for the next season with yandle's BO so it's not like they have great flexibility to make major improvements prior to the start of the season.

Brovovski's been declining for the past few years but Knight is a bit of a wildcard could be ready to have a big year. Goaltending will be the key for them and will decide where they finish. If Brobovski continues to decline, and Knight still isn't ready for big time.... like others have said, just missing a key injury or two and it's possible they have a very bad year. Heck, even their management announced that it would be a rebuilding year which.. does not make much sense considering they don't have their pick but potentially good news for us. Hope they implode.

Something that bears explanation, how can Columbus be +2.2 and added Gaudreau while the Habs are +2.1 and have done mostly sideway moves?
It's possible the model is taking into account the age of the roster and how players are expected to improve or decline based on age and not just purely a model that adds/subtract based on roster losses/additions of players ?

Wishing on a goddamn star. That Tkachuk reasoning is hilarious.

a LOT of ridiculously wishful thinking in this thread lol

do you really think that losing weegar, huberdeau, and marchment while gaining tkachuk is enough to push a president's trophy team down into the lottery? I don't think so.

I’m not a big fan of Luszczyszyn’s models but he has Florida being the team that regressed the most during this off-season:

6 wins less would be still 110 points

Barkov was injured last season, Ekblad as well, not sure what this is all about

reminds me a bit of the canes pick last season, huh they lost Hamilton this pick will be really good
