I still see Florida being a top 10 team in the standings next season and probably somewhere in the 6th - 10th range. I hope though they do take a bit of a step back and won't win the Atlantic division next year, which puts that 1st automatically in the lower end of round 1.

I think it is kind of crazy that Florida traded 4 1st round Pick for Sam Reinhart, Ben Chiarot, Claude Giroux and Matthew Tkachuk, and the only one that is not protected is the one they gave for Ben Chiarot.

I know that all those trades were bigger than the 1st Pick, but still, with how competitive the Atlantic/East are, that trade could become really really good for us! (It would still be a good Trade if we receive the 32nd Pick IMO)
There's a lot of gold in this coming year's draft.

Some people are way too quick in predicting the Panthers downfall. Tkachuk for Huberdeau is a wash. Guys like Marchment and Duclair can be replaced by Denisenko and Heponiemi. Plus you have Lundell ready to take another step. The real loss is Weegar, but Montour and Forsling are underrated and will get more icetime.

Lightning will take a step back, Bruins too. Panthers are Top 2 in the division.

...personally, I see the loss for Florida in their System...Huberdeau, while never the swiftest of skaters and defensively challenged, is a phenomenal passer and great at moving the puck; Tkachuk, also a slogger when it comes to his skating, isn't a great passer or transitioner of the puck, he's a finisher and a net-front presence...Weegar, for all his defensive shortcomings, is also a great transitioner of the puck...I truly believe that Florida took a fairly significant step backwards this upcoming season and with pretty much everyone in the Division besides us either in a contending window or significantly upgrading (Ottawa & Detroit especially), I could see a scenario where Florida is a Bubble team...

You’re underselling Tkachuk. A Tkachuk-Barkov-Reinhart line will be phenomenal.

I think florida will miss the playoffs. One of the biggest reason for the past shortcomings was a lack of discipline and motivation. I think with the new coach, this will once again be an issue.

Plus every team in the division got better except for them. So I think they miss the playoffs and finish 10 or so in the east

...yup, it will be...and that's one line...unless Lindell takes a BIG step forward this season, Florida will be a one-line team with an OK 2nd line and pretty bad depth everywhere else, especially on D...and Bob is the other wild card; Florida outscored everyone last year with a ridiculously high team shooting percentage which they are going to be hard-pressed to repeat with no Huberdeau or Weegar driving play...and Bob has been ridiculously inconsistent since he got his big contract in Florida...

One line team? Sam Bennett, Carter Verhaege help make a very good 2nd line. Lundell, Hornqvist, Luostarinen in the bottom 6. Look at how good the Leafs of the regular season are, this is comparable.

Bob was good last year and he falls flat, Spencer Knight is great.

I mean with enough injuries and Bob taking a step back, yes they could be a bubble team.

They also paced for 120 points before the trade deadline with Barkov missing a lot of time.

Florida has a legit top six: Barkov, Tkachuk, Reinhart, Verhaege, Bennett and Lundell all paced for over 55 points last season. (Duke paced for more but is injuried) Verheage in particular isn't talked about a lot given that the doesn't play on the powerplay, but he's been there. There's some confusion on who will play with them; I'm guessing Hornqvist moves up along with Balcers and White.

The D is missing a top three D: Forsling and Ekblad are fine in their roles, but Weegar was in important. I'd argue that losing Weegar hurts more than Huby for us.

People are underselling Lundell too imo. He's a very good young center.

You need Bob to take a step back and Knight to not take a step forward. Knight is one of the best young goalie. There's a truck load of if in the "Panthers will miss the playoffs scenario". Might as well buy a 649 ticket ...

...who drives the play there??...I like Bennett, he's a good middle six banger with some skill, as is Verhaege, but neither drives the play, neither are great transitional guys as much as they are finishers...Florida lost a lot of the skill in their run-and-gun System in losing Hubs & Weegar is what I'm trying to convey...that change may impact them more significantly than most expect...like I said, I'm not banking on them crapping the bed this year, but I wouldn't at all be surprised to see them in more of a Bubble spot this season and maybe even stepping backwards to the point where they miss in the most competitive Division in the NHL right now...

Nobody mention the coaching change which seem like a probable downgrade. Bednar took over from Quenneville with passion but the defensive flaws were evident and now they trade their best all around defenseman and bring on Maurice. They could miss the playoff.

Don't wish injuries on anyone...

And.

Panthers are an Ekbad or Barkov long term injury away from ending up outside the playoffs, with no cap room or futures to easily leverage for in-season roster bandaids.

Updated for their current roster, they combined for 333 goals last season (28 more then any other team in the league). Hard to see much of a step back barring a serious surprise.

They have a lot of depth up front. I'm interested to see their opening roster and who they have to expose to waivers. Habs could have a chance to add a forward from them if they can't protect them all.
