Even the tailgate parties are a hot ticket.

With the Toronto Maple Leafs into the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2004, eager fans snapped up thousands of free tickets for an expanded Maple Leaf Square viewing area in minutes Monday afternoon.

Not long afterwards, some of the tickets for Tuesday night’s Game 1 against the Florida Panthers were being sold — for a mark-up — on Facebook and Kijiji. Some tickets were being given away, but others were going for anywhere from $20 to $100.

That prompted scorn from some on social media.

“PSA: Stop “selling” leafs tailgate tickets. They’re literally free. If you can’t go, give them to someone who can,” tweeted someone with the user name Chantelxlane.

“If you’re selling the Maple Leafs tailgate passes… you’re actually a money hungry b——. I gave my Raptors pass to someone for free because I had an extra one I didn’t want to go to waste, it’s not that hard to be kind and follow the rules,” tweeted someone going by Tellietube.

Those “rules,” by the way, make selling the freebies officially a no-no. According to the terms and conditions of the tailgate tickets, they can be transferred to another person, but not for money.

“New this year, mobile passes can be transferred to another fan after being acquired through the Toronto Maple Leafs App. Transfers for the purpose of sale are not permitted and will result in passes being revoked,” the fine print reads.

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment on the scalping.

Hours before releasing the tailgate tickets for Game 1, MLSE had announced it was expanding Maple Leafs Square ahead of the series with the Panthers. The tickets will be made available the day before each game, on the official Maple Leaf app.

The tickets have a designated viewing zone. Zone 1 fans will access the tailgate at York street and Bremner Boulevard. Fans with the new Zone 2 passes will enter through Lower Simcoe street and Bremner Boulevard. Gates open at 5 p.m.

Glad there are some fans bringing the energy outside, I know I couldn't do it. Would find it too difficult to watch from a distance without being able to hear properly, especially in one of these additional zones that are even further back.

They should set up another screen in the back

Idk why people are going on like Florida is a ‘tough’ team, like somehow Tampa wasn’t.

Tampa had Fat Pat, Bogo, Jeannot (hahahaha!), Perry, stealth dirty Kucherov, Paul and a ton of guys who love chippy after the whistle shit like Colton, Sergachev, Cirelli, Killorn and Hagel. In fact I’d say the only meaningful players with any sportsmanship or integrity they have are Point, Hedman and Vasilevskiy.

Tkachuk isn’t tough - he’s more of a sneaky dirty after the whistle chirper who will drop them - a prime Corey Perry if you will - he will still need to be accounted for but Schenn can easily remove a few of his teeth.

Sasha the friendly ghost is still one of the game’s elite two way centers but whatever happened to him? The numbers are still ‘good’ but wasn’t he in the Matthews-MacKinnon tier a few years ago? Of Tampa’s forwards it was his counterpart Cirelli who was scariest.

Gudas is a pylon with a knack for bad penalties.

Montour-Forsling-Ekblad-Gudas-Staal-Mahura vs Rielly-Brodie-Schenn-McCabe-Liljegren-Giordano. Florida May have a slight edge in the top three (though Mo is the best overall) but that bottom three is hideous, as I said in the start of the season.

Ekblad somehow morphs into a rock in the playoffs but has exactly 1 career postseason goal.

It’s their unsung guys - Verhaeghe, Montour, Luostarinen and Bennett who will need to step up and who could cause problems.

Florida bans sales to Canadian credit cards - because yeah there’s no Canadians with green cards in Florida (I personally know seven) and certainly no unscrupulous Floridians who will be willing to flip a $75 ticket for $200 in this era of record inflation.

I’m still sticking by Leafs in six.

Lomberg is a piece of shit and we'll probably get to see him in action.

Would be great to start on time. I don’t think we ever started well in any game in the first outside of game 2. Gotta take something from NJ playbook and what Ruff told his young team. Go for it from the get go. Tired of seeing this team not skating from puck drop

One of the biggest things that gives me stupid amounts of hope is we played the vast majority of this season with Matthews clearly not himself, and the final 10 games of the season plus the Tampa series seem to show the dude is back.

The guy I want to see more from is probably Willy. Last series was the dichotomy of William Nylander. He made some game breaking offensive plays and cut through a neutral zone trap like cheese, but then turned around and gave it back by not paying attention to the details in the dzone.

Honestly, I am more nervous about playing the Cats than the Ratpack of Boston.

They did win President Trophy last year. They have some decent talent
But nothing to worry about as far as I am concerned

They don't have a Hedmen nor a Sarg. Hedmen really is something else, so underrated, so underappreciated. Sargecheyev is a very good D and very stable

Montour and Ekblad are not the same calibre.

We have a good balance of speed and skills. Florida won't choke you like Tampa did. Florida likes to rely a lot on forecheck. Which is great, because unlike Tampa they'll give up those odd man rushes

Their defensive posture is no where near the Tampa or Boston. Those teams give you no space, but Florida will. that will work to our advantage

Not to mention their goalie sucks. I can't wait for Matthews to light up Brobs and everyone can shut up about them beating tampa like 4 years ago

Florida and the remaining east teams are no joke. But this conference is wide open at this point.

That series win against Tampa must give leafs the boost they need. They have learned how to play and manage themselves

But hoping it doesn't give them false sense of confidence that you can have a bad start and give up 4 goals and be able to come back. That's on coaching to keep the team level headed

Nobody in their D scares me, their goalies definitely don't. If Sammy can just play his game, we'll be fine. They were an opportunist team against Boston

Nylander needs to get more engaged. Matthews came through big time
Tavares should fare well against Florida D

Why are so many people so against 11 and 7? Like I got not wanting to do it in the regular season but we have the depth on defense and our 4th line was absolute dog shit against Tampa….why would we not keep doing it?
I'm willing to give ZAR and Lafferty another chance. Our 4th line played well this year, as far as I know. Of course, this would also depend on Lily playing well too, so we could run with 6 dmen. And we could still play the core players more minutes if we needed to.

We shouldn’t take Florida lightly, they’re running on adrenaline especially after eliminating Boston. They’re going to come out swinging. But our star players are better, our forward depth is better and our blueline from 1-6 is better. Goaltending could be a wildcard, Bobrovsky when he’s on he can be as good as any goaltender out there. We need to make life difficult for him just like we did for Vasi.

You’re right about Bob, but, Vasi scared the daylights outta me. Bob really doesn’t scare me that much, to be honest. I just don’t feel it’s very likely at this stage that Bob will steal a series by himself.
