lol at changing your vote when it's reported he might be going to the Islanders.

I knew there was a some reason he changed ?!?

I was about to give him a like, and then...my distrust of humanity kicked in...and I scrolled to the truth...

The people who voted Yes on this poll have already won. The poll wasn't if Panarin signed, it was if the Rangers would try hard to sign him. They have, regardless if they get him or not.

Hard? Seems like they made a pitch and then left it at that.

What do you consider a hard effort?

They made a competitive offer to be one of the final teams under consideration and brought him in for a visit at MSG. They even photoshopped him in a Rangers jersey (wrong handedness and all) and I'll be damned if someone is going to try to tell me that using photoshop isn't a hard attempt to sign him.

Yeah and when the price went up slightly they bowed out. They made a pitch, basically here's what we have to offer, here are the terms we're offering. You like it? Awesome. You don't? We won't lose sleep over it. If they were going hard after this guy they'd be signing him to a ludicrous contract offer.

When JG wants someone, he goes for broke. He's aint going for broke here.

Shame the poll wasn't whether or not Gorton would go for broke.

That's the same exact thing.

Everything that's been reported is that the Rangers made an offer, there was a better offer made by a local rival that was above what the Rangers offered, and then they bowed out. If you think that's going "hard" for a player then you're severely mistaken.

I was being pretty facetious, but I find it fascinating that the only way an attempt could be considered going hard for a player is if they go for broke.

No.

I'm where I was a week or so ago.

Just can't see paying $10, $11, $12 million a year for this player.

We're gonna need some it to pay for perhaps Kakko, Kravstov, Shesty, Miller, Fox, etc.

I'd rather put it there.

Giving an inferior offer and saying take it or leave it is not going hard.

Thats just understanding your limit. You go as hard as your limit is...its not like they massively undervalued him. In a Cashman Machado kind of way...not that Cash was wrong there.

I mean, I agree - they understand their limit - which also, in turn, means they didn't go hard after him.

The fact is, if the Rangers really wanted Panarin, he would almost certainly be a Ranger. It's so obvious he wants to be here. So why wasn't he announced already? Because the Rangers haven't 'gone hard' after him. They've offered him nearly 2 million less than other teams.

I agree with what the Rangers are doing. I don't want Panarin at 11 million, let alone 13. But to argue that they went hard after him is just ridiculous. The Rangers offered him a contract, well below market value, and said take it or leave it. While 11 million is still a lot of money - it's 14 million less over 7 years. 14 million is a lot of money.
