Speaking of Patches, at his age, any rumors of an extension and desire to sign here and finish out?
Actually yes. The Athletic had a couple articles recently that he and his family love the Raleigh area and are already considering an extension to settle down here longer term

I could see us giving Patches a higher dollar one year gig to keep cap flexibility and judge his ability to stay healthy. I don’t know we would do anything long term unless he was willing to take less dollars.

I mean we are at the point where, barring some trades to free up room, we're pretty full up with the roster for the next 5 or so years, especially with the contracts we know we have coming due. Anyone looking to play here long term is going to be in a situation that you see in most contending teams that are square in their window.... How much is winning worth to those players, because we can't afford to pay you market value and you have to take a discount to play here.

the following players’ contracts expire at the end of this season: Jordan Staal, Jesper Fast, Derek Stepan, Paul Stastny, CDH, and Coghlan is an RFA. Even assuming Jordo re-signs I would think signing Pacioretty shouldn’t be a problem.

Yeah I'm more worried about when the Aho, Necas, Turbo, Slavin, Pesce, Skjei, etc contracts come due starting next season. We have to be careful when thinking about bringing someone like Patches in that we aren't pricing out someone we also need in order to compete.

Agreed. I don't see a deadline deal for 2023 as likely, but there is definitely some space to maneuver in the offseason, particularly 1 year deals for 23-24.

This doesn't even include that both Andersen and Raanta are UFAs and Kochetkov is signed up at Raanta's AAV long-term.

I don’t think Turbo stays, Jarvis takes his spot (and a likely bridge candidate). Necas will likely cost a pretty penny. Pesce and Skjei seem like the guys that finally break our paying for old guys mold. We could give them 8 year deals to keep the cap hit down. Also, if Skjei keeps up this offense for another 2 seasons he’ll price himself out. Slavin and Pesce are likely to get moderate contracts because of their lack of offense. Im not too worried there. Burns falls off when Slavin needs a new deal.

We’ll likely aim to maintain cap flexibility again in the offseason. A 2 year goalie deal that will expire when Slavin needs a new deal (Korpisalo is my guess), patches on a 1 year deal. Then we’ll see if his health and everyone else’s deals / the cap allow us to keep him longer. Probably target Kapanen with 1 year left as the 3RW for further flexibility.

Forgot about the goalies. That should help as well, especially if they decide to go the 1a/1b route. I don’t see a problem bringing him back

Andersen can pound sand. Raanta, whatever I guess. I think they both need to go. But Andersen can sit on IR somewhere else. Stastny can go. CDH, eh... Coghlan, we've not seen enough of. Staal needs to stay and so does Fast but at the right prices. I'd like to see Patches stay if he keeps playing this way.

Any update?
Just what was @hblueridgegal posted in the other thread on what Brindy said in an interview.

"On The Point on Sirius, RBA said Patches won't likely play tomorrow but downplayed a major injury. He said they like to be extra cautious with players returning after injury."

And that doesn't mean a whole lot.

Doubtful for tomorrow is actually encouraging.
