Neutral fan.

No way does Pacioretty get you Marchand. Equal offensively but Marchand blows Patches outa the water when it comes to the 200' game.

Patches-----481 GP....174 G...170 A....344 TP.....71 PPG AVERAGE
Marchand---454 GP....153 G...136 A....289 TP......63 PPG AVERAGE.

What was that you were saying again.

a mix of hab hate and blowback from fellow habfans whining that he's captain has suddenly placed 67 in the underrated category. second most goals only behind kane in that draft year..4x 30 goal scorer, top 10 LW making 4.5 mill for next 3 years..27 years old...yeah let's trade him!

If only Pacioretty was a 1 dimensional player.. but he's not. He's one of the best 2 way wingers in the game, of course he's still behind Marchand in that regard but Pacioretty is still up there with Marchand/Hossa/Palat/Eriksson etc.

On top of that he's more proven offensively, he's a better goal scorer and he makes 4.5M for the next 3 seasons.

Wow, minority opinion, but for me it's Pacioretty all day, every day. People are in love with Marchand for his WC performance, give me the bigger guy who scores more every day.

Not to mention that someday somebody gonna knock Marchand out.

No chance in hell Marchand could pull in Patches.
Bruins can keep the Marchand. He's 28 and only Once scored over 30 goals and will probably never do it again.
Ya lets trade our 35 goal scorer for some random 20/25 goal scorer.
HF your funny.

Marchand has managed at least 20 goals five times in five full seasons with Boston (he had 18 goals in the 48-game season), doing so with minimal power-play time. In fact, his 66 even-strength goals since the start of the 2013-14 season lands him in the same ballpark as more reputed scorers like Crosby (69), Patrick Kane (69), Phil Kessel (68) and John Tavares (67). Add to that he is an elite penatly killer, usually near the top of leading it in short handed goals. Never takes a shift off.

Al LagoonNot to mention that someday somebody gonna knock Marchand out. Lol patches has more suspensions with his fair share of dirty hits, this is no saint. Probably the worst captain they have ever had to boot as some Habs fans say. In the worlds he was invisible in games that I seen.

You seem to be forgetting the 2011 Cup that Marchand played a very big role in, also lately the World Cup in which Marchand led all players in goals and was second overall in points, how does patches match up with those stats?

People calling them equal offensively is pretty insulting, Pacioretty scored over 30 goals (33, 39, 37, 30) 4 out of the last 5 seasons, Marchand scored 30 once.

Marchand is barely better defensively than Pacioretty, to the point where it's negligible for a winger. He's stapled to the best defensive center in the league which makes him seem better at defense than he actually is

No way in hell does Montreal downgrade (or at best trade for a lateral player) who makes 50% more than Pacioretty.

Lol Marchand is so much better the Pacioretty it's not even fair. The Bruins will laugh and hang up the phone. Some Habs fans are delusional.

Looking at players' careers to gauge their value in a trade is a failure of colossal proportions, because teams don't trade players having in mind what they did, but instead what they will do.

Anyways... It is interesting to note that a player like Marchand, called by some in this thread a "20-25 goals" player, has only 21 goals less than mega goal scorer Pacioretty over the course of roughly 6 seasons worth of games. Also, with Marchand having played 27 games less.
If showing these numbers was intended as a knock on Marchand, it achieves the opposite effect, tbh.

As things stand today, Marchand IS better in pretty much everything than Pacioretty. No deal from the Bruins, Montreal would do this instead.

and tampa gives up a 30/30 guy for a 30/30 guy that is 5 years older because.....?

Because Pacioretty is going to cost you less at 4.5M for another 3 years while Kucherov will cost you more. It would be strictly about money.

With Pacioretty's bargain cap hit, you know you will have room to sign some of the upcoming RFA's like Johnson, Palat, and Drouin. Whereas if Tampa signs Kucherov, they will most likely have to part ways with one or two of those three RFA's next year.

People calling them equal offensively is pretty insulting, Pacioretty scored over 30 goals (33, 39, 37, 30) 4 out of the last 5 seasons, Marchand scored 30 once.

It is true that Marchand scored over 30 once but it is also true that he was on a 30+ goal pace in the strike shortened season and that he was pretty close to if not at a 30 goal pace when he scored 28 and missed a few games. Marchand also has gotten hardly any PP time throughout his career until they put him on the 2nd unit last season. Look what happened last season when he was given the ice time that Pacioretty gets.

Marchand's shooting percentage was also lower than it has been in his previous seasons. I am going to say that Marchand's additional scoring looks to be in direct correlation with the amount of ice time he was given last season and if he plays the same amount he will put up very close to the same amount of goals.

There is one big fact there, given equal ice time Marchand and Pacioretty score at close to the same rate. Some people just can't seem to admit that Marchand is a great player because they dislike him when he plays against their team but the numbers don't lie.

With that said, I am not telling you who to like better, I am just telling you that Marchand does in fact score at a rate very close to Pacioretty like it or not.
