Why would the habs pay Gaudreau twice the amount of pacs when he isnt twice the player pacs is. Habs keep that money and use it on Price and Galchenyuk.
It doesn't work that way, Is Pacs twice the player than Galchenyuk?

Players are paid on tiers(right or wrong) and when they signed the dotted line. I said at the time Pacioretty could have got at least another mill for such a long term, but players and agents were a little freaked after the lockout. If Pacs were a FA today he could ask for $6+ mill and get it without a fight.

Not a chance in hell Montreal passes.

Killing their salary cap situation to trade their best power forward and captain for one of the smallest wingers in the league doesn't really make the habs a better team. I wouldn't trade lucic for JG even though I know he will likely get 15+ points more than him every year.

You literally have no clue what you're talking about. The score of a hockey game isn't calculated by hits, it's tallied by who scores the most goals. Go make a list of forwards who produce more offence and rethink your post.

You're not paying attention. No point in arguing.

As for the thread:

I'm a Habs fan who love Gaudreau and hate Patches.

I'd do that in a hearbeat.

However, we don't have the cap space to pay the rumored 8M/year, so that's that.

Not every player on a team can be a small skilled forward. The hawks have Kane and Panarin but they also have big bodies like Toews and Hossa. After watching my team get bullied and pushed around for years I understand the need for heavy players. If my team didn't already have Eberle, Rnh, Mcdavid, etc etc I would likely lean towards JG over Lucic but someone has to go get the puck back and win the physical battles. The highest scoring team in the NHL doesn't always win the Stanley Cup, points aren't everything.

If they don't want to pay 8M why not take a 4,5M contract?

Of course MTL would have to add a bit.

Because Gaudreau will soon challenge for an Art Ross and Pacioretty has zero chance of ever doing so.

Just what the Habs need another small midget and than pay him 8 mil a season.
No thanks we will keep our 4.5 mil 35 + goal scoring captain.

Small or not, Gaudreau is INCREDIBLY talented. I'd move Pacioretty for Gaudreau in a heartbeat & pay him $8M.

Imagine Gaudreau-Galchenyuk-Radulov. Holy ****, the pure skill there. Gaudreau also has performed under any circumstance for Calgary. He's the real deal.

Pacioretty's great at both ends but man, saying you wouldn't move him for Gaudreau because JG is small is a brutal way to think of things.

"Heavy players" are often role players. You need players to score, and there are only a handful of them that do it better than Gaudreau. Saying you wouldn't deal Lucic for him is borderline insanity.
