"Heavy players" are often role players. You need players to score, and there are only a handful of them that do it better than Gaudreau. Saying you wouldn't deal Lucic for him is borderline insanity.

This is an early post of the year candidate.

I know that it may sound ridiculous but we've seen what happens to a team full of smaller non physical players for 6+ years. Gaudreau is absolutely worth more in value than Lucic, no question. That said I was one of the people pushing to replace Hall with Lucic long before it was hinted at that he may sign with us. Most would say that Hall > Lucic and Hall < Gaudreau more or less. We already have McDavid, Eberle and RNH as smaller skilled guys and while Gaudreau is more skilled than 2/3 of them (Eberle maybe the better goal scorer) the bottom line is that we have some solid small skill as is and can use a high end power forward like Lucic. I'm not expecting the majority to agree with this, just explaining the rationale for the opinion.

Gaudreau is better that Patches but in the long haul I can't see Gaudreau having as much longevity because of his size. A few years of mixing it up with players 50 LB heavier and taller probably take a toll. Tyler Johnson is a good comparable and he actually is bigger than Gaudreau. Tyler scored 72 points and had a great playoff run but then the injuries began to creep in.

I am in full support of having a balanced lineup. You need skill, you need top 2-way centers, you need good possession players, size and guys that can score. The hardest to acquire though is high end skill. I love the moves Edmonton made this year and they'll be a better team this season and I think a playoff team.

To flat out say though I'd take Lucic over Gaudreau, it's crazy. But in Edmontons case, Lucic 1 for 1 fills a bigger need, no question.

Laugh all you want, value wise its obviously tilted the Habs way but I'm fine keeping Patches at 4.5m. I don't want to pay Gaudreau 8m, and he would be horrible with Therrien. Also Gaudreau on our team wouldn't be our best player

Yes he would be. In any scenario where Gaudreau ends up on the Habs, Price is going the other way.

Although it might actually be interesting having both of "Canada's teams" hanging their future hopes on a couple of young Americans.
