Flames laugh.
And the Habs continue finishing ahead of the flames in the standings, even without their best player, Price.
Flames laugh.
I mean, I think Gaudreau is slightly more valuable now than Pacioretty all things considered, and he has more room to grow. The gap between Galchenyuk and Brouwer is so massive I don't think anyone could justify that deal from the Habs side. And I don't think anyone could justify refusing from the Flames side.I was basing it on the fact that people inexplicably seem to think Brouwer is a good player.
Fair enough.Gaudreau is in my mind in the same tier as Tarasenko and, just below franschiseplayers like Kane and Karlsson but well above "regular stars" like Pacioretty, Johansen, Palat.

I think the value between Pacioretty and Gaudreau, from the perspective of most teams, is a pretty decent gap. Pacioretty is a very good player, but he's five years older than Gaudreau and he has three years remaining on his contract before being UFA eligible. The value with Gaudreau I think really comes from the fact that he's just entering his prime and will likely be with his next team for 6-8 years, whereas Pacioretty is in the meat of his prime and when his contract is up, he'll be at the age where most players get overpaid as they slowly begin to decline.
If we're looking at a team like the Hawks or Kings, Pacioretty may have equal (possibly even more) value to Gaudreau because his cap hit is so good during their cup windows. But for most teams that aren't right in their cup window, I think Gaudreau's value is notably higher simply by virtue of the fact that a 4.5 million dollar 1st line winger doesn't do much good if the rest of the team still isn't at contender level.
But yes, Galchenyuk vs Brouwer is a pretty big gap. In honesty I'm not sure the Flames have the right secondary piece to add in this trade.
I'm quite happy in keeping Patches.
I still wouldn't do it as a Habs fan, Pacioretty is bigger, stronger, much better defensively but Gaudreau produces more/has more skill. I'll keep my captain, Flames obviously keep Gaudreau
just lol. only one of these guys is good enough to be the best player on a contending team
terrible for the flames. you dont trade a 30g/75-80pt player for a 30g/60-65pt guy who is 5 years older.
habs would have to add Sergachev in this scenario
Laugh all you want, value wise its obviously tilted the Habs way but I'm fine keeping Patches at 4.5m. I don't want to pay Gaudreau 8m, and he would be horrible with Therrien. Also Gaudreau on our team wouldn't be our best player
