Well that was certainly an interesting draft.

Pleasant surprise to see the Kings take Lawrence 215th overall. With all the time he missed due to injury it certainly showed what type of character he is when he missed pretty much all last season and still got picked.

Guindon 127th to the Canadiens really showed how even though that missed year due to the pandemic didn't hurt his chances, he really stepped up late in the season and showed what he can do and what his season will be like this year coming back.

Petrovsky really is just getting started at the end of the season last year I thought there was a lot more he could still show us. Obviously Minnesota was willing to take a shot on him. He might be one of the more underrated players the team will have this year coming back.

Interesting Bryant wasn't picked but that certainly doesn't mean the end to Gavin's chances at a pro-camp invite.

If that is what the cornerstone of the team will start with next season and if KL can stay healthy and in the lineup then we could see the base to a very good season for 2022-23.

Fun fact to date OS has had a total of 62 players drafted into the NHL dating back to the team's relocation from Guelph in 1989.

42 - Attack
20 - Platers

Not sure if you meant to say Bryant or not . However if you meant Deni Goure that no one picked I am right there with you. He lead the team in points this season and I feel he shoulda been drafted. Im sure he will find an invite to camp somewhere but it kinda blew me away a bit. If not I hope he comes out stronger then ever and gets picked next year!

Deni has now been passed over in 2 drafts...

Suspect the view is that his game doesn’t translate to the next level. The prototypical ‘what got you here, won’t get you there’ situation.

....and he was invisible in the playoffs. Their forwards were being driven by 16 and 17yo’s mostly.

03 Hockey Fan you would be correct there are things about Deni's game that don't translate well. Hopefully he can figure it out and get an opportunity to play some pro hockey.

Production may not have been there, but I thought he was quite good from a winning battles/aggressiveness standpoint. It he is a third line player as he may be next year, I think that's a nice recipe for success.

When your regular season leading scorer only has one assist and is -4 in 7 playoff games that’s not good. Neither is having a kid drafted 10th overall playing 3rd line as a 19yo.

Sure it is, the kid is a point a game in the regular season, if you have a 70 point guy on your third line, that is as good as it gets. He's not playing 3rd line due to performance, hes playing 3rd line (maybe) based on having 3 NHL drafted Centre's also in the system, Lawrence, Petrovsky and Guindon. If thats not good, Ill take not good all day long.

I believe there is enough ice for everyone. IMHO with the way this team played when they learned and bought into the systems, having one of the best tenders in the league as an O/A and with what i feel will be a couple key additions this season should be pretty special. If everyone remembers 2011 our 3rd line consisted of 2 O/A's and an underage and that line was huge. If you are going to be a contender in this league you need at least 3 if not 4 strong lines and 4-5 d that would be top 4 on a lesser team. Throw in a couple healthy scratches that could play regular and your good to go.

Certainly ahead of a useful #3 picked C.Roberts at the same ages

Itll be fun to watch, they have the ability to build 3 scoring lines right away with established vets. Be it Goure on the wing on line 2 or down the middle on line 3 to add depth, the fact that you can have perhaps 3 1st lines will be fun.

If they can get the right 02 forward and Fantino is the same kid we saw in the playoffs, 3 deep scoring lines is not only probable, but a fair goal.

I don’t know anyone that would consider Connor Robert’s OHL career hugely successful though. I also would have expected more than 1 assist out of him in a 7 game playoff series. I’m not really trying to disparage Goure. I realize the kids (Porco, Portokalis had an impact too) just turned it on in the playoffs and were driving the offense. I just found it surprising that Deni went from leading the team in scoring to basically invisible in the playoffs. Huge stretches of play would go by where I completely forgot about him. If he ends up on the 3rd line next year, that speaks volumes about the impressiveness of Owen Sound’s forward group (I love their crop of 04’s and 05’s) but nobody ever gets picked in the top 10 of the draft with the hopes that they’ll be on the 3rd line as a 19yo. If he is 3rd line though.....I’d expect him to take advantage of favorable line matchups and have quite a season.

Linemates are the single biggest factor that can impact success, moreso than favorable matchups. He would probably be better off earning a spot in the top 6 if he wanted to have quite the season.

There is a big difference between not very good and hugely successful, I think. Though I may taken it as more of a slag on the kid than you intended it to be. Gore selected #10 getting 63 pts in 68 gp is a bit ahead of former OS #20 picked Russell. Perhaps @5’10”, he was not quite strong enough yet to excel at playoff time. I think that by the time Goure’s OA year is complete, he will have proven to be a fine selection.

I would expect the top 6 to include Goure.

Petrovsky - Guindon - Barlow
Lawrence - Goure - Burroughs

I think the third line likely features a trio of 18 year olds in

Bonaiuto - Bryant - Fantino

The fourth line will likely feature Chafe and some of the rookies expected to make the team.

I think Goure is a decent player. He skates well and has the ability to make plays offensively. I think the biggest issues with his game are with his decision making and his defensive play off the puck. He was burned defensively last year making poor reads or turning the puck over in bad spots. As has been pointed out, the younger players have likely passed him on the depth chart and taking reps on the second line against the second and third pair opposition defenders could really benefit his game. He won't be expected to carry the load offensively next season.

Overall, the team projects to have two very good lines up front with the third potentially being a strong line as well depending on how the players develop. Always room to tinker with line combos during the season and having a healthy 6'8" 230lbs Kaleb Lawrence could be fun for the coaching staff to work with certain match ups.

Those are probably the top 6 forwards without a doubt, I just know Walters said in the media that they want Lawrence down the middle and that the also will want to add an impact 02. I could envision something like the following.

Petrovsky - Guindon - Barlow
02 - Lawrence - Burroughs
Bryant - Goure - Fantino

And if Bryant grows off his 38 point season and Fantino is the player we saw in both the preseason and postseason, im not sure that Goure misses a beat on that line and it becomes alot like Tampa Bay's line in the playoffs a few years ago that featured Goure/Goodrow/Coleman. Maybe its the second line and Lawrence is the third line, either way, its probably the deepest team in the West up front.

Speaking of Tampa Bay.....they could do us a huge favor and really screw with everyone's predictions!!

If that top line is together in 2 years they will tear this league apart. If I was OS, I’d be very careful in what picks I spend this year because I could see them lining up to hoist their second Robertson Cup in two years if managed properly.

That 2011 3rd line was pretty special.

One was the OHL playoff MVP.

Another was the 16 yr old playoff hero who scored the game 7 overtime winner in the league final.

The 3rd has become the head coach if McGill University hockey team .
Not bad at all , for a bunch of bottom 6 forwards.
