Is it a sign of great drafting or over valuing their picks and stubborn to trade picks for other potential better players?

I do believe that OS is great at working with their players over time and not cutting bait quickly.

Not saying either or, just putting it out there.
Time will tell.

I think it's a reflection of the quality in the drafts they've done in recent years. I think typically you're acquiring players from outside of the organization to fill holes. The fact that they haven't needed to make trades means that they can keep their picks and be more aggressive in the draft. It's always going to be better to draft and develop a player than have to pay a premium to acquire one.
A few holes have been filled internally.
For example, Kaleb Lawrence is the best trade you never make.

After missing most of two years, he looks happy and healthy .

He's , in a way filling his own hole .

And we are so glad to have him .

So in the release about the Brennan signing it looks like they are expecting him to be top 9 (there words) so that effectively bumps everyone down a notch. With the addition of an OA fwd another bump down. That means 2 guys sit every game. The battle for icetime is about to get real.

So Julian Fantino with another 2 goal game hopefully he can carry this into the regular season this year. Antonio Tersigni with the Gordie Howe. The report on this kid is he will be a fan favorite before long. He is an Andrew Shaw in the fact that he's a dog and the puck is HIS bone. I don't put a lot of stock in exhibition games but it is better to be on the + side then getting smoked.

Well two games in the pre-season down, a few key things certainly showed.

They certainly didn't start off the fastest in these games which is more a contributing factor to likely bus legs to start the games, but once they got their feet moving and loose they seemed to play with both the Colts and Battalion.

I like the no quit attitude the team has shown in the last two games on the road, both in Barrie and North Bay. I think as we continue to move forward into next week and them the start of the season will see these kids take big steps forward in their development.

Bright days ahead and exciting times are upon us for the rest of the year.

Do you think OS gets a top 10 CHL ranking before the season starts or is that a stretch?
I'm superstitious so I hope not. 2 examples always come to mind back in Plater days we were a favorite to be near the top and had the worst season on record. FFW to 2011 many experts had us missing the playoffs and we know how that movie ended.

I think the big take away for me so far is that the big guns haven't really contributed much on the score sheet. The guys that are expected to play further down the line up have done most of the scoring which is a great sign. Most notably the third line has provided the majority of the goals and the team has won both games. Definitely brighter days to come.

I would think it's unlikely they crack the top 10 prior to the season starting. Maybe an honorable mention. I definitely expect them to be in the mix once the regular season gets going. I don't mind if they fly under the radar to start the year. Can use it as motivation.

I remember 3/4 years ago they started in the top 4/5 after losing to Erie in the western final. That was one of the most disappointing years in some time. I have no doubt they will get there this year, lets let them earn it. I'm like you, way to superstitious

That season was such a let down. They seemed poised to make another run that year but just seemed to struggle to find consistency and some key injuries hurt. The goalie situation that season was pretty tough as well. Like you said, have to play the games and earn it. Nothing is ever given for free.

How did your 1st Rounder Cormier and 2nd Rounder Rogers look?
I am a Rogers fan he looks very good. Cormier is going to be asked to start down the lineup a bit 3rd-4th line so his strength may not be evident as early. As with any 16 yr olds there is a learning curve.

Mitchell Young traded to Sarnia for a conditional pick. Good for him. He had a strong camp and deserves an opportunity.
Turned a 7th round pick who didn't make the team into a 6th round pick this year. Don't see that very often.

Is Mitch young good? What’s is game like?
I only saw him this year in camp, he looks a bit bigger then listed, very good skater, not that aggressive, good first pass. but not like a high skill defenceman like a Sean Durzi. Just a guy that plays alot and makes good plays. He probably could be a top 4 D in a few years.

I thought he had a strong camp with the Attack. Any other year and he is likely on the team but we already had 8 dmen on the roster. He moves well. He showed some offensive jump in his game with a fairly steady game in his own zone. He's listed as 6'1" but not an overly large defender. Will likely need to fill out physically still. I think he's a very intriguing player and has the potential to be a top 4 dman eventually.

That is a stellar trade taking a player who wasn't quite able to crack our roster and turning it into a pick 1 rd higher than he was picked. Dale can use that pick as a piece in any move he makes. It also gives the young man an opportunity to live his dream and play Major Jr Hockey a win win.

^^^^^This right here! I watched majority of training camp and was shocked that they did not keep him over a couple of the incumbents. GW has only been here for a year but it seems he prefers the older stereotype D men, big and slow and somewhat physical for some reason, as opposed to new era puck moving join the rush D that I feel would compliment more of what should be a high powered offense in OS this year. Young will make your line up.
I brought this quote over from the Sarnia board as I didn't want to take over there board with Attack stuff. First off I really liked Young and most years he would make the team hands down. You are basing your assesment of him on a few days of high intensity camp. How many times did you see him last season? I pretty much guarantee Attack scouting saw him more. I'm not sure who you were watching that you feel is big and slow? Imho if you have 8 new era puck moving guys that always join the rush coaches like Dale Hunter will slaughter you. You need a high power offense because you'll need to score 7 g a gm cause the other team will score 6. They make there choices on what they have learned about these kids over the long haul and obviously felt Young wasn't quite there. I do agree he will make the Sting and I hope has a solid OHL career but really I don't know who he could have pushed out. I could be totally wrong here as I always say there is a reason Dale and his peers are paid well to do what they do and we are here posting on these boards.
