With how wide open the conference is there are more buyers than sellers. Clearly going to be a sellers market this year. Teams that appear to be sellers are bidding for a mem cup which impacts who/what they are willing to move. I would expect the acquisition costs would be higher than normal most likely as we move closer to the deadline. The team is likely stronger on paper next season. The Attack don't typically do big buys/big sells and the draft cupboard reflects that. We have picks but it would take the majority of them to make a big splash and potentially leave you with little to augment next season. It's a catch 22.
I've only lived in Owen Sound for the last ten years so I'm not the expert by any means but I have to imagine there's a responsibility to the marketplace in terms of fielding a competitive team. We have the smallest market in the OHL. I know the fan base is passionate and behind the team but does that waver during a three year lull in a full rebuild when we don't have picks/players? Can ownership stomach low tickets sales/revenues for an extended period of time, especially after a lost COVID-19 season and season with no/low attendance? There's a lot more involved than just managing the roster.
I can certainly appreciate as a fan looking at the team and seeing a window to chase a title and being disappointed if they don't take a swing. As much as I would love to see another championship in Owen Sound, I think the long term health and stability of the franchise in Owen Sound is the most important thing to keep in mind.
