Value of: Owen Power

Power will never be as good as Dahlin, and he's worth so much more than Byram - it just makes the most sense for it to be him IMO. Obviously depends on the return. Gotta think a lot of teams would call and the return would be a good 'hockey trade'. Buffalo's depth chart needs a retool, and this would be a big one.

It's not even that he won't be as good as Dahlin, we need two PMDs in the top 4 anyway, but only two, the question is who to trade Power or Byram. We need to know if Byram wants to stay in Buffalo, if he's willing to be a second-pair guy, what kind of contract he's looking for. I'd listen to offers on both players and see what we can get.

There are a few posts about Power’s youth and that the Sabres need to be patient as he will get better, etc. and I am not arguing that but the Sabres cannot afford to be patient.

The playoff drought hangs over this franchise like a black cloud.

If he is playing like this next year, and there is little indication that he won’t, they will not make the playoffs again next season.

Power was proposed because of his salary, his potential but also because him playing 22 minutes a night hurts this team more than it helps them.

I could easily see the Jackets ponying up a big offer for Power but the contents would depend on what direction Buffalo wants to go. If they are looking for High Ceiling its probably around Lindstrom. If its current help i would expect it to be around Sillinger. Throw in our unprotected 1st and Proverov going back as well. I could see another young player like LDBB or even Chinakov as well, but I don't see the Jackets being willing to include guys like Fantilli, Marchenko, Vronk and KJ if that is what Buffalo demands.
Columbus isn’t trading what it would take and buffalo isn’t trading a 21 for futures/ magic beans.

I do not disagree with your statement above, but I am pretty sure you misread what I wrote. My take was that *if* Power were made available, his value would be deemed very high by some GMs in the league, despite him not m being a legitimate #1 D, *yet*. I believe someone would trade for his potential and pay a high price.
Ahh, yes there would be lots of interest.

Seems like a luxury to have Dahlin, Power, and Byram. With the holes they have in the lineup one needs to go. Dahlin isn't going anywhere so it comes down to the other two. Power probably has the most trade value. Could get a good forward for him.
In theory anybody could be traded and you weigh the pros and cons of each possible deal.

As a matter of fact, Dahlin is now established as a #1 stud playing either side; the overpay to make Sabes feel soooo good on winning that trade is not 111% impossible, but close to it. He goes nowhere.

If someone gives good enuf value for Byram, he could be worth a try, but smart money would avoid that bet b'c of his concussion history. Yes, Ekblad has apparently come all the way back from that brink, ditto Juulsen. But Buf has to realize risk-reward is a real thing, and this will likely drive down the return.

That leaves Power.
I'm not seeing a lot of names being tendered.
Rs, I would have considered Kaakko, but they pissed him away for Borgen +, who is good +, but not worth KK

not seeing Rangers and Sabres a fit

You think a last place team is going to trade a 21 yr old former #1 pick for a 32 year old headcase?

Not happening.

There’s different ways to see it.

Do I think the last place team is considering moving on from their 21 year old 1st OA pick that doesn’t seem to be learning defense for a recent 100 point number one centre tied to a long-term deal (happens to be exactly what they’re missing).

There’s no way I wonder trading Petey for a guy who is trending worse than Tyler Myers did. The Miller offer was one of reclamation project for slumping superstar.

First off Power is not trending worse than Tyler Myers... I am Power biggest critic and that is just hogwash.. Myers wished he had a quarter of Powers talent.

"Recent" 100 point player.. that is great.. it really is.. I appreciate this accomplishment.. unfortunately it doesn't translate to future success for 32 year old. This is a trade for contending teams..not last place teams because by the time it would make a difference Miller will be washed up.

Not to mention the more recent accomplishment of his is dipping out on his own team.

This is an absolute idiotic proposal.

Some might say that only 15 hits on the season for a defenceman who is averaging over 22 minutes in 44 games is a detriment to Power but I say think of all the potential wear and tear he's avoiding. He could play into 40's the way he avoids contact.
