I have a touch more confidence that Beck will become a NHL 3rd line centerman, than Kidney or Mysak
I think Mysak will be a winger

Beck said that he like to compare himself to Danault.

The only thing I don't like about Beck is that he doesn't seem interested in being a better offensive player. I didn't hear him mention offence once, despite that being the thing he needs to work on the most.
He does have a similar profile as Anthony Cirelli. Quite similar stats in the OHL.I don't think a player needs to come out and say that he would like to score more......it naturally goes without saying. Players like Owen Beck play the game the right way and the offence naturally comes as a result. He has all of the tools to be a significant offensive contributor and is easily the most under appreciated pick from this year's class on this board.
I think every GM in the league takes Beck over Hutson but this board has taken the opposite approach based solely on offensive stats and development camp eye candy.
Beck was a great pick and other teams may regret passing on him imo as I think he has close to top ten upside in this draft.
Mesar and Beck give us two players with tons of speed who don't sit back and wait for others to take charge. Slafkovsky is of a similar mindset but without the speed but his puck protection ability has a chance to be elite.
I would be interested to see how much higher the Habs brain trust had Beck, Mesar and Hutson rated.
I agree with you, the other point people don't pay enough attention to when stat watching is opportunity. Put this kid on most OHL teams and his stats go way up. Being on a team with another top center pushes him into a secondary role, Give him 1st line time and line mates, and 1st PP usage and his stats would fly off the chart and would have made him closer to a top 10 pick instead. That he was taken higher than his teams' #1 should speak volumes about his potential in the eyes of the Habs.I don't think a player needs to come out and say that he would like to score more......it naturally goes without saying. Some do.Seriously , some posters here think they know better than NHL SCOUTS....
The offence didn't come as a result, though. I think it was likely a result of his playing style, trying to always be ''above'' the puck. I agree that he has some pro tools that scale well to the NHL (skating and shot), but he didn't demonstrate anything like a high level offensive game this year.
As for Owen's pick value, I think it's fair. I don't see him as being a steal or a blunder. More a bet on his tools.
I don't think that is a fair assessment of a player in his rookie season in the OHL.
If it is we'll find out pretty quick I think. Who knows, maybe Beck drops 100 points on my head this season. I'd love to see it.
The essence of good drafting: correctly assessing and projecting that development. Seeing prospects for what they can become as opposed to what they are. Will watch his sophomore season closely. He may make a hell of a jump in development.
Ain't that the truth...and governed by the principles of calculated riskThe essence of good drafting: correctly assessing and projecting that development. Seeing prospects for what they can become as opposed to what they are.
IMO they had Yurov as #1 target with their 1st and traded down when Minnesota picked him just 1 spot in their face. Then Dubas probably gambled that their 2nd target would still be there and lost his bet. But hey, they moved Mrazek's contract at least.Aho, Point hope you guys are right. I heard the Leafs liked him with their pick. Before they traded down

Could be. If Beck anything close to you guys say he be a steal at 33IMO they had Yurov as #1 target with their 1st and traded down when Minnesota picked him just 1 spot in their face. i see alot of Plekanec personally, just super smart In term of positioning and making all the little details a natural center do. Better shot than Pleky though and a little bit bigger.Could be. If Beck anything close to you guys say he be a steal at 33
