Prospect Info: Owen Beck

I usually hate these Timmins special picks of players "good at everything, elite at nothing", but I was convinced of this pick within the first 20 seconds of watching him play. Already looks like an NHLer, and I sense he has hidden potential offensively.

He is what people thought Shane Wright was, in terms of all-around-ness.

Far from unthinkable. I'm thinking it right now and it seems more probable than it looks.

Wright's "intangibles" are largely overrated, whereas Beck has the real intangibles, like e.g. faceoffs and defensive play.

People keep painting Shane Wright as some sort of Jonathan Toews, but I never saw it.

The fact that Owen Beck is more of a Jonathan Toews type than Shane Wright, whose intangibles seem largely overrated.

Of course, Beck is less likely to hit the primetime. We're talking long shots here.

Big fan of Beck. Really solid player. One of those, along with Mesar, that you know will make the NHL. 3rd line center 100% with possible upside if he develops offensively. Very underrated player.

Edit: I was yelling for them to take Hutson at 33 lol

He's a lite version of Kasper (also underevaluated and below radar) + bonus 60% at face off.

Feels like a Tampa Bay level draft steal ala Cirelli, Gourde, Point, Palat, Killorn etc....

It is almost always foolish to immediately anoint picks as steals but this one just feels like it has a chance. Obviously he went earlier than the players that I mentioned and would be less of a surprise but he may slot much higher in a redraft 5 years from now.

He has a really good release & shot. If we move him to wing, his upside is a Brandon Saad type.

He seems like a 3rd line center type of guy that hopefully finds more offense. Can't say I love the pick, but then there are some people who have watched him who seem to really like this player, so that's encouraging.

I have a touch more confidence that Beck will become a NHL 2nd or 3rd line centerman, than Kidney or Mysak.

Beck said that he like to compare himself to Danault.

will be interesting to see how well he translates his wide range of tangible and intangible skills into NHL impact.

top 6 and even top line NHLer seems very much attainable for someone with these types of attributes. Screams big improvement curve from teen to adult.
