If it's not a goal by rule then the rule should be changed. I don't see anything wrong with counting that. If you can steer a puck into the net with your skate then why can't it also hit off you glove? He wasn't throwing the puck or punching it into the net. Clearly was attempting to knock it down to the ice to hit in. Just seems weird to allow some really questionable skate "deflections" but definitively disallow this.

I actually don't think it matters that it may have touched his stick, it was totally directed into the net by his glove:

78.5 Disallowed Goals – Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the Referee and the appropriate announcement made by the Public Address Announcer for the following reasons:
(i) When the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an
attacking player other than with a stick.

Should have totally been a goal. Ovechkin is always entertaining, great character, pushing the limits, etc... and that's why we watch hockey - so good goal! What an innovator. Incredible! Never seen anything like this before. OVECHKIN!!!!1

Because then you need to find the line between throwing/punching it in, and just "steering" it in. And then you'll see a bunch of silly calls.

You can deflect the puck if it deflects off you. But you can't redirect the puck with anything but your stick.

Otherwise, you could just grab the puck and throw it into the net, but then it's an entirely different sport. The US goal was correctly called off yesterday for the same reason, he consciously redirected the puck with the body.

From the views that were shown to us, two things are certain:

1) can't tell if the puck hit the stick
2) can't tell if the puck didn't hit the stick

So yes, it's all down to the call on the ice.

Either way he shove the puck forward toward the net. Since they couldn't tell if it hit his stick or not. They have to call it no goal with what happen before.

will say this though, ovechkin wouldnt have acted that way unless he really thought he hit it.
Ovechkin's stick hit the Swedish defenseman's stick. That's what he probably felt. In that moment, it's impossible to distinguish between whether or not your stick hit the puck or something else. Everything's moving too quickly. With the adrenaline of the moment, moments like that can sometimes be a bit of a blur.

He missed the puck, although his reaction is sincere.

If he was attempting to "knock it down to the ice" and it entered the net how is that any different than punching/throwing it into the net ? They are all hitting it with the hand into the net.

Stralman already confirmed it wasn't his stick.

Nothing can be done now. Doesn't matter, play a full game comrades

You can't really tell from a player saying something. Strålman really has nothing to lose here, but still. What I believe on is the replays, and none of them showed the puck visibly hitting any stick after Ovy touched it with his hand. So rather easy call for the refs.

Sportsnet showed a clear angle showing the puck never touched the stick.

I'm not sure how this is a debate.

First goal touched the other russians stick, giving it to Ovetchin is better publicity.

Second hit Strålmans stick but a combination of the call being no goal, the hand move being unsportsman like conduct, the official camera angle being wrong and the all round pressure from both teams, the whole stadium and their official employers high in the stands, also since it being a [neutral] game, it wasn´t worth the hustle.

It only touches very slightly, that´s when the puck starts wobbling.
